[Transcribed on April 17, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] Harvey W. LETSINGER, highly respected citizen, lawyer and businessman, died suddenly at his home Monday on South Washington Street, aged eighty-three years. Harvey W. LETSINGER was born near Jasonville, May 24, 1849. He was the youngest of thirteen children of Lewis P. and Margaret A. LETSINGER, early pioneer settlers of Jasonville. His youth was spent on the farm and some of his most vivid youthful experiences occurred during the stirring days of the Civil War. Five of his older brothers and two brother-in-law served volunteer enlistments in the Union Army. One brother died while in service and another was killed in the battle of Antietam. He attended the public school of the neighborhood and later attended Ascension Seminary at Farmersburg, taught school a few years and then entered Indiana University Law School, from which school he was graduated in 1875. After graduation from law school he came to Bloomfield, forming a partnership for the practice of law with the late Capt. John D. ALEXANDER. This partnership continued for many years until Capt. ALEXANDER moved to Bedford. He continued the practice of law until the infirmities of age rendered him unable to do so. On December 24, 1879, he was united in marriage with Mary E. CUSHMAN, who preceded him in death April 24, 1928. To this union were born two sons, Reed A. and Leo C. LETSINGER, both of whom survive, and one son who died at birth. There are surviving also nine grandchildren and one brother Lewis E. LETSINGER, of Jasonville. His parents in pioneer days helped establish and maintain the Methodist church in their community and he in early youth united with that church. During his life he was a consistent attendant, worker in, and supporter of the church. Mr. LETSINGER was the oldest living member of the Greene County Bar Association at the time of his death. The funeral services were held yesterday at the First M. E. church, with Rev. Elmer ST. CLAIR officiating. Interment in Grandview Cemetery. - Link to the Obituary of his son, Leo Cushman LETSINGER [1883IN-1970IN]: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.indiana.counties.greene/9957/mb.ashx - Link to the Obituary of his son, Reed A.
