[Transcribed on April 17, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] The funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth CUSHMAN were held at the home on East Spring Street, Thursday afternoon at 2:30, where the deceased had lived for many years, and interment was made in Grand View Cemetery in charge of George E. KIDD, funeral director. Mrs. CUSHMAN was one of Bloomfield's oldest and highest esteemed ladies. She possessed a fine Christian character and was loved by all. She was born on the site now occupied by the Bloomfield Trust Company, and her beautiful and useful life was spent in sight of the public square and the place where she was born. The services were conducted by Rev. Guy V. HARTMAN, pastor of the First Methodist church, of which she was a devoted member from early childhood. The music was furnished by a trio composed of H. L. DONEY, Gordon E. MCCRACKEN and Courtland M. CHAMBERS. The many beautiful floral offerings were evidence of the high esteem in which she was held by all. Elizabeth Jane LESTER was born January 23, 1836, and died July 6, 1927. Her parents, Willis D. and Mary (TATE) LESTER were pioneers of Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana. She was one of eleven children, only one sister, Mrs. Emma WEATHERWAX, surviving. At the age of 19 she was united in marriage with John Milton CUSHMAN. Their home was blessed with her mother's number of children, five of whom preceded her to the Great Beyond. Those who survive are Mary Esther LETSINGER, Gertrude TITUS, John CUSHMAN, Robert CUSHMAN, all residing in Bloomfield; Emma BYNUM, of Coldwater Michigan, and Ella WEBSTER, of Lyons. Her husband was called to His Home Above, November 1, 1887, leaving at a time when it seemed he was most needed. Thus the responsibility of the family rested heavily upon the mother. But with patience and a tust in Divine help, undaunted she labored on with a faithfulness that only a mother could. She was modest, kindhearted, ever ready to lend a hand to help others. She was loved by all who knew her. She united with the M E. church when a girl, and was faithful in attendance at the services as long as she was so privileged. It was always a pleasure, and her desire was to encourage others to be faithful in Christian duties. Often, especially of late years, she was hear repeating the lines: 'We know not what's before us What trials are to come, But each day passing o'er us Brings us nearer, nearer Home; -Yes, nearer, nearer Home.' Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar MEACHAM and Mrs. Esther POWERS, of Acton, Indiana; Mr. and Mrs. Milton CUSHMAN, Mrs. John CUSHMAN and two daughters and Mrs. Anna EMERY, of Princeton; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey CUSHMAN, of Camby; Lynn CUSHMAN, of Indianapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Otto DYE, of Sandborn; Mr. and Mrs. Charles CUSHMAN and three sons, and Mrs. Velora FIELDS, of Jasonville; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel BYNUM, of Coldwater, Michigan, and Mr. and Mrs. Willard WEBSTER and Mrs. Allie HICKS, of Lyons. - CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our sincere appreciation to all who were so kind in assisting us during the illness and after the death of our beloved mother, Mrs. Elizabeth J.
