F, 97th Regiment, Indiana volunteers, Army, Civil War; Rank Private. NEWSOM, William J; Buried Worthington Cemetery, Worthington, Grave No 3, Lot 76, Block 7; Served Co. C, H.A.., Army, Civil War. You might want to write the State Archives in Indiana and request xeroxed copies of the Muster Roll Cards for William L. Ask for both Co & Reg's for him. Those are easy to read and will verify for sure the outfits he served with and when he was enlisted and discharged, where and by whom.
