Civil War Veteran: David J. SKINNER b. 1848 Garrard Co.KY [m. Hamey Loruh LIVINGSTON] is my 2nd GrGrandfather on my Paternal side. David J. SKINNER the s/o Clark SKINNER and Lucinda "Susanna" Unknown, whose family resided in Beech Creek Twp, of Greene Co.IN was in the Civil War, as were all of his brothers, Peyton S., William, James H. & John Riley. David was the youngest of 5 brothers to join the ranks, as he had just turned 17 the month before he enlisted in service. 146th Regiment Infantry: Organized at Indianapolis, Ind., and mustered in March 9, 1865. Left State for Harper's Ferry, W. Va., March 11. Attached to 1st Brigade, 2nd Provisional Division, Army of the Shenandoah. Duty at Charleston, Winchester, Stevenson's Depot, Jordan's Springs and Summit Point until July 27. Ordered to Baltimore, Md., July 27, and assigned to duty in the Military District of Delaware by detachments. Mustered out at Baltimore, Md., August 31, 1865. David J.'s family lived in Greene Co., then moved to Knox Co.IN for a few years, before finally settling in Owen Co. by the 1880 census, this is where his family remained until his death in 1921.
