Edwards.” [Transcribed 13 Apr 2002 from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.] On the death of F. L. EDWARDS, the following is by the M. E. minister, George H. REIBOLD: Francis L. EDWARDS was born in Bloomfield, Indiana, August 29, 1839, and departed this life at his late residence in this city on the evening of May 16, 1912, aged seventy-two years, eight months and seventeen days. On December 24, 1873, he was married to Elizabeth Harriett SCOTT, to which union one son was born, Lewis B. EDWARDS, who with the widow, survives. One sister, Mrs. D. R. SPAINHOWER, and two grandchildren, Lewis BAKER and Edward Everett EDWARDS, also survive. He was a soldier of the Civil War, having enlisted with COMPANY E, FIFTY-NINTH INDIANA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY, in the fall of 1861, and served three years and six months. He was an honored member of Lovell H. Rousseau Post No. 326, G.A.R. in which he often served as commander and quartermaster. In the years of his young manhood he gave his heart to Christ and became an active and faithful member of the Methodist Church, with which he has been honorably identified for nearly fifty years. He had served for many years in the capacity of class leader, and steward. During the major part of his life he followed the vocation of farming and a clerk in the commercial business. In his death the wife has lost a devoted husband, the son a fond father, the little grandson, whom he fondly loved, an affectionate grandfather, the church a faithful member, the community a good citizen and his immediate friends a kind and helpful neighbor, the community a good citizen and his immediate friends a kind and helpful neighbor. With his going our beloved country, with reverence, respect and the most profound gratitude, honors in her great heart and memory his services with that of his valiant comrades whom have gone before’ The funeral services were held at the family residence Saturday, May 18, at 2:00 o’clock conducted by Rev. Geo. H. REIBOLD, after which the remains were taken to Grandview Cemetery under the auspices f the G. A. R. post. — We desire to thank the friends and neighbors for their kind assistance rendered during th3e illness and death of our beloved husband and father. MRS. HARRIET EDWARDS LEWIS B.
