Surnames: DANNENHOWER, DENNIS, FLATER, GILKERSON, HOLMES Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ci.2ADE/4480 Message Board Post: THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, January 30, 1913, Volume XXXVI, Number 11, Page 4, Column 2, “DEATH’S HARVEST. DANNENHOWER.” [Transcribed 16 Apr 2002 from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.] Mrs. Bertha DANNENHOWER, daughter of Polk and Emma DENNIS, was born at Newberry, August 9, 1875, and died at the home of her parents in Bloomfield, January 22, 1913, aged thirty-seven years, five months and thirteen days. She came with the family to Bloomfield about thirty years ago. Besides being survived by her parents the following brothers and sisters survive her: James, of Jasonville; Dugger, of Lyons, and Mrs. Ida MARTIN, Mrs. Eliza GILKERSON and Mrs. Jennie HOLMES, all of Bloomfield. She was married to Charles FLATER October 19, 1897, and on May 7, 1908 she was married to John DANNENHOWER, of Illinois and made her home in that state till the 12th day of last May, when she came to the home of her parents and remained here till her departure. She had been in poor health about two years, and on January 20, 1912, she underwent an operation in the hope of saving her life, but it proved to give only temporary relief and suffered greatly till her death, but was remarkably patient in it all. During her illness her parents, brothers and sisters were untiring in their ministries to her and their devotion knew no end. When about sixteen years of age she joined the Christian church. She expressed herself as willing and ready to go home and be with Christ. She was much interested in the salvation of her loved ones and earnestly pleaded with them to prepare for death and eternity. — We sincerely thank our many friends and neighbors for their kindness during the last sickness and after the death of our beloved daughter and sister.
