Cain Uland.” [Transcribed 25 Apr 2002 from the original newspaper on file with the Recorder of Greene County, Indiana] Mrs. Leona J. (CAIN) ULAND, wife of John R. ULAND, was born in Greene County, Indiana, August 23, 1877. Departed this life April 9, 1912, aged 34 years, 7 months and 16 days. The husband and little son Ivan, together her mother, eight sisters and three brothers with other relatives and friends mourn in her death the loss of a most devoted wife and mother, a loving daughter and sister and a kind friend. The father, one sister and brother have preceded her to the better world. Mrs. ULAND was an ideal wife and mother. Though long a great sufferer she bore her affliction with the most exemplary fortitude and patience. She early in life united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of which until her death she remained a faithful member. She had but one purpose in life, and that the happiness and welfare of her home and its loved ones who have been so sorely bereft to her death. Though the husband made every sacrifice and rendered every service within his power to stay the inevitable, nothing availed. Her deepest sympathy of appreciation never failed, always most cheerful, giving little though to her suffering self, but ever mindful of the loved ones she was called to leave in sorrow. She was good neighbor as was shown in the kind attentions her many friends paid her during her illness, and her death. The church suffers the loss of a faithful member, and the community a model woman. To the husband, the little son, and relatives the entire vicinity extends their sincere sympathy. Such devotion by a husband to his wife is seldom ever seen as Mr. ULAND gave to his wife. A busy man he quit! his work, gave up his position as a traveling salesman and devoted his entire time and constant attention to his wife. She was confined to her bed for weeks and months and during all that time, he was always at her side and attending her many wishes and desires. — NOTES—RLJ: (1) DEATH RECORDS OF GREENE COUNTY, INDIANA, Health Department, East Spring Street, Bloomfield, Indiana, Book H-6, Page 30: ULAND, Leona, female, white, age 34, died 9 Apr 1912 in Bloomfield, Father—Frank CAIN, b.
