They keep the birth and death records in the back. There are some index books to the side that are open to the public so that page and book #'s may be jotted down and then a request for a copy of those records will be xeroxed for about $1.00 a page. Marriage records must still be obtained in the clerk's office in the courthouse, also for about $1 a page. Many records in being reviewed for digitizing and a meeting will take place soon to get that project off the ground. If anyone needs a lookup for the page and book # for those records, the historical society can do that. You may call 812-384-8400 Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for that free information. You can also request that information in writing from the Clerk's office at the courthouse or the health department on Judge Street, Bloomfield, IN 47424.The library website is also a very good source for research as was mentione! d in a previous message.
