    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: EMERY, HOWARD, JOHNSON, LONG, MARTINDALE, NEELEY, RUSSELL Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ci.2ADE/4581 Message Board Post: THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, October 21, 1943, Volume LXVIII, Number 53, Page 3, Column 1, “OBITUARY—Mary Martindale Neeley.” [Transcribed 10 June 2002 from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.] Mary, daughter of John C. and Harriet E. (EMERY) MARTINDALE, was born May 13, 1872. She died at her home in Eastern Greene County, October 8, 1943. Age 71 years, 4 months and 35 days. She was united in marriage to Ben HOWARD, June 28, 1903. He died in the year 1914. On December 23, 1916 she was united in marriage to Alonzo NEELEY, who survives her. She also leaves a foster-daughter, Mrs. Helen JOHNSON, of Compton, California; one brother, Thomas MARTINDALE, of Cincinnati, Indiana; two sisters, Mrs. Maria RUSSELL, of Lyons, Indiana, and Mrs. Sadie LONG OF Cincinnati; and a number of nephews and nieces and many friends. Mary had been in poor health for a number of years, but her afflictions never became serious until about eight weeks ago. She was converted about five years ago, and all through her last sickness prayed and had the assurance that all was well with her soul. Last Sunday when some of her friends were gathering around her bed and sang for her, she joined her weakened voice in singing, “Oh Think of the Home Over There” and “The Sweet By and By”. On Monday she sank into a coma from which she never rallied. She said she was like the Apostle Paul, “I have fought a good fight, I have fi! nished my course, I have kept the faith”. Neath our eyes you faded slowly. Growing day-by-day more frail. Bearing sweetly all your suffering, Without a murmur or a wail. Day by day we sat and watched You slowly fade away, Yet in our hearts we hoped and prayed, That God would let you stay. A shadow rest upon our home, We miss your smiling face. Wherever we look, wherever we turn We’ll see you smiling face Oh, how we miss you darling, As you lie quietly asleep and at rest. But when we think of how you suffered, Then we knew that God knew best. Some sweet day we hope to me you In that heavenly land so fair; Where with Jesus and loved ones You’ll be waiting for us there. — CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank the neighbors and friends for their kindness and sympathy, also the singers, flower girls, Jenkins & Sons, and Bro. SKINNER for his consoling words. Alonzo NEELEY Thomas MARTINDALE Mrs. Maria RUSSELL Mrs. Sadie LONG.
