LINTON, Ind., Sept. 7, --Two little tots aged five and seven were taken to the county poor house yesterday afternoon as a result of the killing of Mrs. David Archer and the arrest of their father. It is believed that in case Archer is sent up for a long period that some kind people will adopt the children and give them a home. Terre Haute Tribune, Sept. 8, 1912 page 12. LINTON MAN SHOOTS WIFE. Fired into Group of Friends Gathered at Home. LINTON, Ind., Sept. 2, ---Promiscuously emptying a revolver into a party of three men and three women, who he found at his home, David Archer, miner, 48 years old, instantly killed his wife Sunday night. Suspicion of infidelity caused the tragedy, Archer tells through the Linton jail bars. He was placed under arrest by Officer Roy Pope, shortly after the slaying. Shots arounsed the neighbors, who telephoned the police. Archer made no resistance, and was found alone in the house with the body. Three women and two men witnesses had fled the scene. He was placed in the Linton jail. Coroner Johnson secured a statement from one of these to the effect that Archer entered the house at 11:30 o'clock, surprising the party in his home. "I''ve heard that you are running around with other men, and now I have found you out," shouted the husband, as he opened fire. Two shots passed through a window; two were buried in the wall, and the fatal fifth found in Mrs. Archer's brain. Archer was employed by Vandalia mine No. 3 (8?) (hard to read).
