I will be in South Bend, Indiana in May. I will probably not have enough time to head down to Greene County but would like to know if there are resources in South Bend that I can check into for info from Greene County. My grandmother, Nellie Odessa Craft was born 2/5/1883, in Cass Twp, Greene, In. Although she and her parents moved to Colorado, I believe there are still cousins in Indiana. My grandmother had many half siblings from the two previous marriages of her parents. Her father, Benjamin Frank(lin) Craft's first wife was Elizabeth Miller and they had sons John R., Henry A. and Jesse W. The only one of these sons I have found anything on is Jesse. He married Nellie C. Deck on March 25, 1894 in Greene Co. and they had at least two children, Mary D. Craft and Oliver C. Craft. The other two sons have been elusive. My grandmother's mother, Cynthia K. Close, was married first to William J. Pebbles on December 23, 1861 and they had the following children. Charles Myron Pebbles, May 21, 1862, d. 9/5/1923 in Bargersville. M. Emma Jane Pate and had 10 children: Vearl Dean Pebbles, 3/27/1891, Myron Orville Pebbles, 8/29/1893, Chester Arthur Pebbles, 1895, Kenneth Pebbles, 1898, Minnie Doris Pebbles, 7/23/1900, Margaret Pebbles, 5/21/1902, Grace May Pebbles, 2/14/1904, Harvey Denzil Pebbles, 3/17/1906, Annis Lorene Pebbles, 5/8/1908 and Cecil Wayne Pebbles, 8/27/1910. Anna Della Pebbles Slinkard, November 27, 1864, d. May 7, 1907 in Newberry. M. Henry Winiford Slinkard and had at least two children: Lelia Genevieve Slinkard, 6/7/1885 and Emil F. Slinkard, 8/5/1887. Hattie D. Pebbles, April 9, 1868, d. 8//23/1935 in Colorado. M. John Fitch Timme 7/16/1886 in Greene Co. Their children were: Horace C. Timme, 12/5/1888, Frank C. Timme, 7/26/1892, Ida Timme, 5/29/1895, Millard Sherwood Timme, 10/6/1897, William C. Timme, 10/11/1904 and Lucille Timme, 2/28/ 1908. Iva Grace Pebbles, January 30, 1876 d. January 26, 1916. M. Alva Ellis Hindman. Their children were: Glen D. Hindman, 7/4/1894, William R. Hindman, 10/18/1896, Geneva Ester Hindman, 9/13/1899, Leo Leslie Hindman, 5/30/1904, Marcella S. Hindman, 4/27/1905, Helen Lenora Hindman, 12/3/1908, Alva Arnold Hindman, 5/24/1911, and Leeman Hindman, 10/30/1913. I am especially interested in finding out about Iva Grace. She and my grandmother were closest in age and I have an autograph book which indicates that they were great friends as well as sisters. My grandmother was only 35 when she died so my mother, who was only 3, never got to know her. I have no source of recollections for her and very few tangibles. The autograph book, her high school graduation certificate, her marriage certificates to Harley Nickless and then to my grandfather, Warren Ray Wheatland and a couple of very bad pictures are about the only things I have to document my grandmother's life. I would love to know more. Perhaps there is a cousin still living who knew her or ??? Thanks for any help.
