Surnames: COMBS, DOBBINS, MILLER Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ci.2ADE/4677 Message Board Post: THE BLOOMFIELD DEMOCRAT, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, February 13, 1902, Volume XXXIII, Number 50, Page 3, Column 4, “OBITUARY--Dobbins.” Died on Thursday, February 6th, 7 a.m. Thomas DOBBINS, aged 70 years. “Uncle Tom” as he was familiarly called, took with hemorrhage of kidneys on Monday night, which resulted in the bladder being filled with blood clots preventing any action from this organ. Drs. MAURER and BURKE successfully operated on him and he rallied nicely but suddenly collapsed. Uncle Tom was a generous and genial associate having a good word for all. He was kind and affectionate in his family and scattered sunshine and joy throughout the community. His joyous and boyish like laughter pealed out a gladsome hailing as he met his neighbors. For long years, until he moved from this town, he was a faithful and constant worker in church and Sunday school. He was a member of the Scotland I. O. O. F. No. 726 order and when his spirit was wafted to its eternal home his fraternal brothers bowed their heads in anguish and draped themselves in mourning and sadly followed his remains to the city of the dead and as the cold winds pierced their bodies their hearts were grief stricken and sadder grown. Rev. FAULK conducted the funeral services in an instructive manner after which the lodge performed the last rites of the I. O. O. F. order. May we who survives cherish his memory and emulate his virtues that the world may pay to us when we join the “innumerable hosts,’ so fair a tribute as was paid our departed brother.
