[Transcribed on December 19, 2007 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] Monday's Washington Democrat had the following regarding the death of a former citizen of Owensburg: "Mrs. Leona WRIGHT, aged thirty years, wife of Charles WRIGHT, of 506 North Meridian Street, died at 3 o'clock Sunday morning of apoplexy, death coming about eight hours after she suffered a stroke while watching afire at the home of a neighbor. "Mrs. WRIGHT had been a resident of Washington for the past two years, having come here with her family when Mr. WRIGHT came to this city to be employed as a meat cutter. She had made numerous friends while in this city. "The fire at the home of Ranse FYFFE, two doors south of the WRIGHT home, occurred about 7 o'clock Saturday evening. Mrs. WRIGHT, who recently had been ill of diphtheria, was attracted to the fire and was standing in the yard watching firemen when the stroke came upon her. She fell to the ground in an unconscious condition and was carried to her home by friends. "A physician was called, but she never regained consciousness, and died about 3 o'clock. Death was pronounced due to apoplexy. "The deceased was born February 9, 1901, near Owensburg, being a daughter of Everett and Maude (DAVIS) RUSH. She was married to Mr. WRIGHT several years ago, and leaves the husband and three children, Myra, thirteen; Darwin, eleven, and Maurice, four. The family lived in Bicknell prior to coming to Washington. "The father survives, and lives near Owensburg. Two brothers, John and Carl RUSH, and two half-brothers, Zeb and Everett RUSH, also live near Owensburg. The body was brought to Ashcraft Chapel, near Robison, in Greene County, for interment Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
