Shearn. He was born March 12, 1857 in Pennsylvania. His father's name was Henry (From England) and his mother's name was Margaret (From PA). He married Mary Evans. She was from Wales. They had 7 children: John, David, Anna, Harry, Cecilia, Blanche, and William. William W. Shearn died February 4, 1927 in Indiana. Probably in Greene County. William and Mary died live in Ohio. Their daughter Anna was born in Belmont Co. Also, William was married 3 times. Last wife was named Susan Mayers. I think maybe his second wife was named Ellen. If anyone has any information at all please contact me. Thank you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I suspect their father, Alexander, belonged in the Devault Keller family of Greene County, IN, but can't find proof. There were a several named John in various branches of that family. Several years ago we went to the Court House in Bloomfield and went through the probate boxes. Piece by piece, bit of paper by bit of paper, we looked and copied each little bit of document that was a part of my GGrandfather's probate records. I found a will on my Great Grandfather and I copied that. When I returned home I found the original copy of the will in my brief case. Realizing I had forgot to replace it in the files I made another trip to Bloomfield and placed the document back into the probate box. It is only as good as the record being in the proper place. Several years later we returned to Bloomfield and found the room where those probate boxes were located was empty of all records. We were told that a judge had ordered the records placed in a storage area since the LDS had been there and copied all records to digitize them. This was for storage room reasons. I am advised that the storage area is off limits to everyone except personnel that work there. Such a shame......:) Lowell On Sun, 3 Feb 2008 11:45:23 -0500 "Phyllis Miller Fleming" <phyllis@shelbycountyindiana.org> writes: > I went to Greene County last month, hoping to find probate records. > > I was not allowed to search on my own. > > The Clerk was very nice and looked as soon as she could . I went to Greene County last month, hoping to find probate records. I was not allowed to search on my own. The Clerk was very nice and looked as soon as she could . She didn't find any (I was looking for two bundles). She did find the file box for one, but the bundle was not there. She told me she would look in another place later, and I left. About ten days later, I received a letter from her (files still not found). I was treated quite well, based on my experiences in other Indiana courthouses.
