Her name was Maria Barker. Supposedly she married Thomas Phillips, a black smith, in Greene County, Indiana. I have been able to find no record of a Maria Barker married to a Thomas Phillips but I did find a marriage record of a Marcia Smith to a Thomas Philips on July 21, 1844 in Greene County, Indiana. There is a Marcia Smith in the 1850 living next to the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax and in 1860 she is living with them (Thomas Jr and Mary Bough). Does anyone know if Maria/Marcia Barker married a Smith and then married Thomas Philips? I belive she might have been born around 1800 but most family trees I have looked at say about 1788 in Kentucky. Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I didn't bring my New & Hollers stuff with me today to the library where I send & receive my email, but from the 1870 Wayne Co.,Ky. census, living almost next door to her & husband David New was a Burton Hollers who I think might be the father of Margaret. Our library in Bloomington, In. has 4 vols. of the Hollers book by Joanne Atay, but the New name & Burton Hollers name are not found. I think she just doesn't have any info. on the Wayne Co.,Ky. branch of the Hollers. I would like to email her, but can't find her email address. Do you have any idea on Margaret's birth & death dates? Any idea when in 1930 that David died? Thanks Don Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: sisterofthesunnah1 Surnames: Barker, Truax, Cochran Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.indiana.counties.greene/9971/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I'm looking for any solid evidence that Obediah Barker who married Sarah Cochrane in Greene County, Indiana in 1834 was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax. I've searched the web and found many family trees listed that Obediah T. Barker who was born in 1792/3 and died 1849 in New Orleans, LA who was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Traux and that he married Sarah Cochran and had children: John, Eliza, Elizabeth, Nancy and Tilman. However, I through my research I think that the Obediah who married Sarah Cochran was not the Obediah who's parents were Thomas Barker and Martha Truax. Reasons being in 1850 census record for Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana there is an Obediah Barker born about 1793 in Kentucky married to a Mary. They have children of their own. The names and dates correspond with earilier census records (1830 & 1840). There are two Obediah Barkers living in Greene County, Indiana in 1840. One Obediah Barker is between the ages of 40 and 50. Making him born around 1790 and 1800. The other Obediah Barker is between the ages of 20 and 30, with 1 female between the ages of 20 and 30. With 1 son under 5 and 2 girls under 5. In the 1850 census we find a Sarah Barker age 34. (Would have been 24 in 1840) with 5 children. 1 son named John aged 14 (would have been 4 years old in 1840) and one daughter named Eliza age 12 (would have been 2 in 1840) which makes it more likely that this family fit in with the Obediah in 1840 who was between 20 and 30. So once again, is there any solid proof that Obediah Barker who married Sarah Cochran was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax and not a grandson or some other relation? Also does anyone know if Thomas and Martha might have had a son named John Barker? Anyone know where the name "Tilman" comes from? He was born in Newberry June 10, 1869, aged over sixty-three years. He was the son of Thomas and Lucy BUCKNER, of Cass Township. His parents both died when he was very young. Uncle Ben GEORGE, of Owensburg, took the boy and reared him until of age. His early childhood days were spent in Owensburg. Some thirty-five years ago when a young man, he came to Bloomfield and worked for Charles PAGE, who at that time conducted a livery barn where now stands the Bloomfield Auto building. He later purchased a restaurant in South Bloomfield and operated it for some three years. When the GARMANS came to Bloomfield from Tennessee to conduct the Elmora Hotel he was selected as steward and chef at the hotel for several years. Under the first term of Sheriff Irvin RAY, Mr. BUCKNER was appointed justice of peace from which term he served until his death. He purchased a residence in Bloomfield on South Seminary Street, and lived there with Ben GEORGE until his death. After the passing of Mr. GEORGE he was associated with Michael L. AMBROSE for more than ten years and both lived at his residence on Seminary Street. Mr. BUCKNER had many friends, always doing a kind deed for someone. Only one sister survives, Mrs. Rodie CLARK, of St. Louis, Missouri. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at the Baptist church at Owensburg. Interment in the Owensburg Cemetery.
