That will be helpfull when we get to Green County. At this point in time I don't have a John J. Middleton but I sure will keep you in mind if I find him! I do have what I think are two brothers, Wm. Richard b. 1867 and Alfred Newley b. 1870, and don't know what parents to put them with. Any ideas??????? You are welcome to any Middleton information I have. Although, the Middleton's have been very hard to come by, so I don't feel like I have that much. Anyway, let me know if I can help you. Leah Middleton leah2042@aol.com PS. I think I'll write to you each day just to get the Gravestone reading for the day!!
Good Morning, RE: IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM ROOTSWEB. Starting today (Monday, 10 June 2002), RootsWeb will begin the process of upgrading their servers to new hardware. This means some lists will be unavailable during this time and we won't be able to post or receive messages. If our list is affected, Rootsweb will halt operation on the particular machine our list is on to complete their move. If you post a message, you might not see it come out on the list, nor will you receive any list messages. Don't panic! It just means our list is probably one of the ones currently being worked on. Rootsweb doesn't expect to lose any messages, but the lists will be down for a while while this changeover occurs. PLEASE don't post "why aren't I getting mail" during that time; you will when it comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. If you have trouble reaching other RW lists this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three... Thanks! I wish you all a MAGNIFICENT Monday! :) Colleen

He was united in marriage with Helen STREET, April 2, 1918. To them was born one child, Maxine. He was a graduate of the Scotland High School, and was preparing himself as a teacher. Last August while attending school and Indiana University, he was stricken with typhoid fever. He came home to battle with that disease but failed to conquer. Preceding him into the Great Unknown are four brothers and one sister. Two of the brothers reached the age of maturity, while the other two brothers and the sister, died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his departure, his father, mother, wife, and little daughter; one sister, Mrs. Hattie DANIELS, and four brothers, Lee, Ross, Charles and Everett. Died at her home in Cincinnati, Indiana, December 16, 1921, aged 56 years 10 months and 2 days. She was one of a family of thirteen children, eight of whom have preceded her in death. Five brothers and sisters survive, they are: Mrs. Lizzie BYERS, of Bloomington, Indiana, Mrs. Martha WEAVER, of Stanford, Indiana; Mrs. Sarah CARMICHAEL of Allerton, Iowa, Mr. George CARMICHAEL, of Carlisle, Indiana, Mr. Joseph CARMICHAEL of Stanford, Indiana. To this happy union was born two children, Curtis and Grace, the daughter, (Grace) CARMICHAEL having preceded her to the promised land. Eight grandchildren, four of whom survive. Della, as she was always known, was a loving and thoughtful mother, a most affectionate and helpful wife. Her entire life was devoted to home, never tiring in her efforts to make home the cheerful place it was. To her home her many friends were ever welcome and her love for others made her loved by all who knew her. She had never associated with any church, but the life she had lived speaks the secrets of a Christian heart. Besides the many relatives she leaves to mourn her absence a host of friends. — We desire by this means to extend our sincere thanks to the many friends and neighbors, the undertaker, Mr. BALLENGER and Brother BEAR, the minister for their assistance and services after the death of our wife and mother. It's directly south of the intersection of US 231 and SR 157 and is a large cemetery, hard to miss. I don't know about an administration office - I doubt it - but a more-or-less complete listing of gravestones is included in Lorraine Krause's Cemeteries of Western Greene County. The listing is broken down by section, row, and gravesite which should make locating a grave fairly easy. I don't have a copy of the book but perhaps someone else may be able to look it up for you. In Point Commerce, you'll want to check the Hayes Cemetery. Unfortunately, this cemetery is on private property and not open to public access. However, the cemetery is maintained by the Jefferson Township Trustee who can probably arrange for you to visit it. A year or so ago the Trustee was Herman Klass at (815) 875-3543. Another cemetery in the immediate area is the Griffith Cemetery about 1 mile NNE of Point Commerce directly on the edge of US 231. This cemetery is also maintained by Jefferson Twp. and is open to the public as far as I know. I am interested in a John J. Middleton who married my ever-so-great aunt, Manerva Stanley in 1867. I know very little about John except that he apparently died before 1875 when Manerva re-married. John may have had a sister, Mahala Middleton, who married James Griffith in 1860. He may have had a daughter, Celesta, from a previous marriage who was living with Manerva and John Griffith in 1880. I'd certainly appreciate any further information you may have on these folks and would be glad to share anything that I have.
