    2. I knew Sandy Bates whose obit has just gone out.. To put people, who have young living descendants, out like this doesn't seem kosher to me. It's like the gene. web sites who list people's data without their permission. Webmaster, what's your take on these recent obits?

    3. Hi, I hope someone on the list can help me. I tried to verify the following information with Greene County and get a copy of the marriage certificate, but was told that there is no "Book G" of marriage records. The person was somewhat rude about it, so I didn't inquire further. Surnames: ROW ROWE ROE McWILLIAMS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Ci.2ADE/4648.1 Message Board Post: John & Polly Hammons Rowe may have moved into Martin County IN. Their youngest son, Norval, lived in Martin County as an adult and is now buried in Martin County. Norval is also found on the 1870 census for Martin County with wife Sarah and daughter Sarah, age 3. Elizabeth could have been the dtr of Benjamin Rowe as Ben and the McWilliams family lived in the Beech Creek township area of Greene County. Ben's Elizabeth would have been 14 in 1848, a probable marrying age. Elizabeth is not listed in Ben's 1870 will which would indicate she moved away after marrying, or she died while a young adult. There are 3 known Elizabeth Rowes in that area in the early 1800's. One is Ben's sister who marries an Eller, one marries Samuel Spriggs in 1841 and the one who marries McWilliams. If Ben's daughter is not the 3rd Elizabeth, then she is a 4th Elizabeth. Other known Rowe heads then include John and Benjamin in Greene County, Stephen in Sullivan County, and Andrew place unknown b! ut has a daughter (Lucy Ann) marrying in Greene County. Tried emailing you directly but your address says invalid.

The following article appeared in the 17 Jul 2002 Nostalgia column of The Culver Citizen from Culver, Marshall Co., IN and is reprinted from the 1902 edition. Examination of the 1900 census and the marriage index shows this to have been Josephine (ROLLINS) SELFRIDGE, wife of Dr. William T SELFRIDGE, with son, Lavere R SELFRIDGE. "Mrs. Dr. SELFRIDGE of Jasonville, Ind., a guest at the Arlington, went out upon the lake [Lake Maxinkuckee] accompanied by her three year old son. The little lad stood up in the boat and fell headlong into the water. The frightened mother sprang overboard to the rescue of her little son and grabbing the rope trailing from the boat was rescued by other guests at the Arlington. The mother's nerves had been at such tension from fright that after being brought ashore she was prostrated for several hours."

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ci.2ADE/729.1471.1482.1494.2.1.1 Message Board Post: My wife is descended from Isaac Workman and Tabitha Truax. There is an Isaac Workman bible that has all the birth dates for his children. They had a Jeremiah born on January 22, 1822. I know there is a widely circulated rumor that Jeremiah Workman who married Cynthia Shipman on September 7, 1843 in Greene Co., IN, was the son of Isasac Workman and Tabitha Truax. I think this is an error. My best guess is that this Jeremiah was a son of Abraham Workman, born about 1796, died in 1850 in Greene Co., IN. He was born in 1811. Here is a transcript of an obituary of this Jeremiah Workman in "The Bloomfield News" that I copied from the internet. ****************************************************** THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, February 7, 1902, Volume XXVI, Number 11, Page 3, Columns 3 & 4, “OBITUARY. Jeremiah WORKMAN.” [Transcribed from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.] On the 29th day of January 1902, at his late residence in Solsberry, Greene County, Indiana, Jeremiah WORKMAN died at the age of ninety years his last birthday. Uncle Jerry, as he has for many years been familiarly called, was born in the State of Ohio, in the year 1811. At the age of seventeen years he came to Greene County dependent upon his own labor for support, where he resided until his death. He never had any financial assistance from relatives. He worked as a day laborer until he earned money enough to by land, after which he followed farming and stock raising. His first purchase of land was in Section 16, Township 7, Range 6, on which he resided for sixty years. He bought more land from time to time, as he could earn the money, until he had 210 acres in that section. Later he bought land in other sections, and at times he had several thousand dollars loaned at interest. On the 7th day of September 1843, he was married to Cyntha Ann SHIPMAN. There were eleven children born to them, four of whom died in infancy. His wife died in 1878. Seven children, ranging in ages from fifty-five to thirty five, survive their parents. The are Frank WORKMAN, Jeremiah WORKMAN, John WORKMAN, Nancy J. SPARKS, wife of James SPARKS, Henry WORKMAN, William WORKMAN, and Lucinda KINDRED, wife of Thomas KINDRED. There are living thirty grandchildren and five great grand children. Uncle Jerry gave to each of his children, as they became of age, a farm of not less than eighty acres, and gave them other financial assistance. All of his children are comfortably situated in life in the county of their birth, and are moral, honest and upright citizens and good neighbors. The oldest son, Frank, has been a justice of the peace for several years. On the 2nd day of April 1898, Mr. WORKMAN was married to Norma WILKERSON, formerly HARRAH, who survives him. Mr. WORKMAN, from first to last, was an honest upright and truthful man. As he approached the sunset of life it was a great comfort to him that he had always done unto others as he would that they should do unto him. On the day before his death he complained of not feeling well, but on the morning of the day of his death he felt better and went to the dinner table at noon, and wile sitting at the table his spirit passed to the other shore. Mrs. Norma WORKMAN, his widow, was many years younger that her husband but has been a faithful wife, taking good care of him in his declining years. C. ********************************************************* The Jeremiah who was the son of Isaac Workman is listed twice as head of a househould in the 1850 census. First, in Linn Township, Taney Co., MO, taken on October 8, 1850, next door to his brother, Richard Workman, age 25, born IN, cannot read or write. Second in Benton Township, Greene Co., MO, two doors away from his brother, Isaac Workman, age 25, farmer, born IN, cannot read or write. His wife is listed as Mary (Polly), age 25, born TN. Their child were Alexander, age 6, Martha, age 4 and Isham, age 1, all born in MO. He is listed in the 1860 Saline Co., AK, Census in Saline Township, age 35, farmer, born IN, with his wife Mary, age 35, born AL, Martha, age 13, Isom age 10, Sarah, age 8, Isaac, age 2, all children born in MO, and his mother, Tabithy Burchanan, age 75, born OH. This means that Tabitha (Truax) Burcham died after 1870, possibly in AL. Bob Allen
