He was past seventy-eight years old. He had lived all his fifty-two years of married life where he died, on his old farm near the Bethel church. He was the father of fourteen children, all of whom lived to be grown. God seen it well to call from this family circle, three daughters some years previous. He was buried at Dishman cemetery Sunday with all the family present except one son whom they tried to reach by telegram in Texas, and who is a traveling salesman. Mrs. WHITE went home with her son, Joe, but will continue to live at the old farm. — Link to the Obituary of his Widow, Rebecca Caroline (MCWHIRTER) WHITE [1851IN—1925IN]: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.indiana.counties.greene&m=2871 — NOTES—RLJ: (1) 1850 US CENSUS OF BOONE COUNTY, KENTUCKY, 6 Aug 1850, Page 148B, Lines 40-42 & Page 149, Lines 1-5, Dwelling 99, Family 99: L. I found one soldier using the "soldier's name search" and his brother using the 97th Regiment that wasn't on the "soldier's name search." You figure. Anyway, it's best to search both ways. Thank you for this web site. Yvonne
Have you tried civilwardata.com It is good. It requires a subscription but it has a lot. Betty

I am aware of two resources that may be helpful: A-veterans buried in Greene Co., & B-National Park Service Soldiers & Sailors System. For 'A', Diane Drogich has compiled a list of veterans of the various conflicts & what cemetery they are buried in. Her work can be accessed through the Greene County GenWeb site http://www.rootsweb.com/~ingreene/greenegw.htm and then click on 'Veterans Burials' and then Civil War. For 'B' the NPS has compiled lists of soldiers in the different regiments. The list will have their name, company, rank in & rank out, but not the county they are from. Go to the National Park Service Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System at http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ You can search for specific names, regiments, etc. If you do a regiment search for the 97th from Indiana, the result will be a description of the regiment's service and links to lists all of the soldiers in the regiment. If you download the Excel version, you can sort the data by company to easily find all those in Company F. The Indiana 97th had a large number of soldiers from Greene Co. In addition to my direct Mullis & Mays line in the Jackson Twp. area, I have found: Ault, Baker, Burgess, Culison, Edington, Fields, Flater, Hardesty, Hatfield, Mansfield, Oliphant, Quillen, Ross, Vest. I know there are many more. There is no search engine for this site, so you may have to search each section until you find them. The site contains pages of an abstract book containing real estate deed records for Center Township in Greene County, Indiana during the 1800s. Each page, after the intial plat book pages, represent the forty-eight (48) sections comprising Center Township. As a hint for reading this information "A" represents the NW 1/4; "B" represents the NE 1/4; "C" represents the SW 1/4; "D" represents the SE 1/4. Another hint, if you find an "A" marked in the "A" column, this would represent a deed in the NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of the section and would most often contain 40 acres. Greetings, I'm an Archer family researcher and have some info on David Ashley Archer who killed his wife Daisy Dyer in Greene Co. IN. Now, I'm not a descendant of David's but collect all that I can find on the entire Archer family and descendants in Greene and the surrounding counties. I'd love to exchange info further with anyone. And I'd love info on Daisy and descendants too. Here are a few things that I can find right now, Daivd Archer was born july 17 1862 probably in Greene Co IN and died on Oct 4th 1948. He is buried in Fairview cemetery in Linton. He was the son of Daniel Archer who was killed in the Civil War and Mahala Stanley. More info on them if descendants are interested, please contact me. Mahala died when the children were still young and they went under the guardianship of William FULK. David married Daisy (I think she was his 3rd wife-- out of 4) on 16 aug 1904 in Owen Co In. I have a birth date for Daisy as either feb 1881 or oct 1882.. Maybe someone can help me on this. So David was significantly older than Daisy. She was killed 1 sept 1912 and buried some where in Coal City. I have a daughter for this couple as having been born 26 Mar 1905, no other info on her. Yes David did serve time in Michigan City. There were newspaper articles at the time of the killings but I cannot locate the one I have a copy of right now. David killed Daisy and another person at that same time. I do not know in which county the case was tried yet. I would think Greene but I really can't be sure and have not yet done this much research. I think David was sentenced to about 15 years. I'll keep digging through my files for more info. I just moved from one state to the next (Now live in Indiana!) and have not yet unpacked everything. I may even have David's Obit someplace too. Would love a copy of Daisy's if anone out there has it. Would love to share info with anyone ! If any one out there is a descendant of this one child, then boy do I have years and years of Archer, Morris etc. research to share. Carolyn Shields Lysandrou
