Family stories state she was raised by a Dr Leighman and lived in St Louis, MO and Springfield, IL before coming to Greene Co, IN. She married Frederick NOLTING in 1862 and then Frederick's brother, Henry,. in 1871after Fred's death. There are other PRECH and BRECK families in the county and those adjacent. (Some of the PRECH's changed their name to BRECK) Is there any connection? Thank you.

Charging that his wife was untrue to him, that he begged her to be a good mother and assist in taking care of her children, and to leave bad men and liquor alone, David Archer is in jail charged with killing his wife. The shooting occurred at the home of Milt Overhoss, at Atlas, about eight o’clock Sunday night, and the other were not killed is due to the fact that they made their get-away. Archer is a miner, fifty-three years of age and appears as harmless as one could be. When questioned by a representative of the press he gave the following story of the affair: “Some few weeks ago, I found my wife in company with other women and men over a saloon. I told her that it was not right, that she should help take care of the children, and she promised me that she would. About that time the man she had been running with came along with his brother, and I decided to have it out there. I did not have anything but a pocket knife and when I started after the men, one struck me over the head with a chair and finished me for that time. Since then everything has been all right until yesterday, when three other women came past our house and tried to get my wife to go with them. I induced her to stay home. Afterward the women returned and one stopped at our house, and when I told my wife for her to remain at home, she said that I was jealous of her and all that, so when she insisted on going to the home of the other women, I decided to let her go to keep peace in the family. “A short time afterwards, a man came to our home and told me that if I wanted to watch my wife, to go to the home of Milt Overhoss and I could do so. When I walked in I found my wife, Graham Davenport and another man and woman there. I opened fire with a revolver and I guess I fired every shot, but I did not kill Davenport and the other man, as they made their escape. I do not remember the shot that killed my wife, but I am sorry that I did not get the other two men. They have ruined my home and I have tried to keep my wife at home and away from such men. “I was married to my wife, whose maiden name was Daisy Dyer, about eight years ago. Her parents lived near Coal City and I used to live at Johnstown, a small town near there. We have three children, but only two were born to us. They are Goldie, age seven, and Dottie, age 5; Orville, a boy, is ten years old and was born to Mrs. Archer when she was married to another man. “ Archer does not appear to be worried over the outcome of his trial, and appears concerned in the welfare of his children more than anything else. It was reported that he was drinking heavily when he fired the shots, but it is not believed that such was the case

If you have ever been to Linton. It was close to where the Anderson - Poindexter Funeral home is. About where the Ameritech building is now. They told me they never knew it to be called Jones - Aiken only Aiken. They say there is no law or anything of transfering records. Like they bought another funeral home in Dugger but did not recieve any past records other than tax info and sorts. So as far as the records they are probably lost. Now I found a very interesting article on Daisy Archer. Do you know how she died ? I just found out. I will post the newspaper article later this afternoon. Aaron

>October is Family History Month. In honor of this I offer you the >following challenge... Mary A. SHEPHERD was b. c. 1829 in Indiana and married James B. RITTER on 5 Sep 1846 in GREENE County, Indiana. I do not know exactly where or when Mary died, but I do know that she was not part of James Ritter's household in 1870 and that her children eventually had a stepmother. It is possible that she died in Polk Co. Missouri, as the family resided there for a time, but James and their two children were listed in the 1870 census in Highland Twn., Greene Co., IN. I have found two SHEPHERDs in Greene Co. IN who could well be related to Mary--John, b. c. 1795 KY and Frederick, born between 1760 and 1770, but I have not been able to make any family connections or to identify her parents. Roberta
Fellow Greene County Researchers: In response to Colleen's October Challenge, I have been searching for info on the Rich, Ellis, and Woods families in Greene County, IN. My great grandmother, Lorena Rich, was born on February 6, 1879 in Gilmore, Greene County, to Charles C Rich and Louisa (Sharum) Rich. She married Christian Ellis on April 27, 1898 in Brown Twp, Martin County. She died November 30, 1913 in Greene County. Christian Ellis died March 3, 1932 in Jasonville. According to my great aunt, after Lorena's death, her infant daughter Thelma was adopted by a neighboring family, the Woods. I believe the Woods moved to the state of Washington at some point. Thelma died in her 20's without marrying, and is buried along side of her parents in Lebanon Cemetery, Midland, IN. I know nothing more about the Woods. I would also like to find out more about Lorena, particularly about her brothers and sisters, if she had any, and her parents. If anyone has any additional information on any of these families, I would be most appreciative. I have photos and information I am willing to share with other interested parties. Thanks, Christine

Hi everyone, October is Family History Month. In honor of this I offer you the following challenge... Tell us about one of your county families and who it is you're looking for. If you have several, do each family in a separate e-mail, but let's see all the families that list members are actively seeking. Some of you may have posted this data in the past month. To you I say this... list members come and go. Perhaps a new list member is looking for that same family. I hope you're all having just a TERRIFIC Tuesday! :) Colleen

I don't need any more computer problems than I have had the last 6-7 years. Buying a lemon has been enough! I've had to live with it and it's been fustrating enough. I hope that when my desktop comes back from repair shop for umpteenth time it will work and not lock up, go into boot failure etc. and its not because of being on line as that has happened since it went down. I've been using a laptop and finally got internet the 1st of Aug.
