Holder married Arrabelle (Aria) Snow and moved to Bloomfield, then Switz City. Children: 1. Bertha O. Holder m. John Roach 23 Oct 1897 in Greene Co. Died by 1902. I do not know if they had children. 2. Amos Holder b. May 22/23 1890 m. Shirley Dowden June 28 1913 in Greene Co. Children: Doris Evelyn, Vivian Lucille, Wilma Rose. I believe the two oldest (Doris and Vivian) died during the 1918 Influenza Epidemic. 3. Christie R. Holder b. March 10, 1885. Married William Tague or Teague on 14 Nov 1913. . He either died by 1920 or they divorced as she is found living with her parents again. She then married James E. Throop 10 Jan 1920. He must have died or something as she is again found living with her parents in the 1930 Census. She may have married a John Lawrence 13 July 1906. But I do not know for sure. I don't know of any children by any marriage. By 1923, Christie Throop was in Terre Haute, Vigo County. I do not know if she remarried again. 4. Fred Holder b. 1893. Fred died at Sea during WWI between 1917 and 1919. I do not know if he ever married. 5. Myrtle Holder b. 1888 married Jesse J. Noel 19 Sep 1903. They apparently left some descendents in or around Bloomfield. I know there was at least one granddaughter named Charlene who married Albert Beam. They were living in Bloomfield. Children of Myrtle and Jesse Noel: Selyes (or probably Silas) b. 1908 Helen M. b. 12 Jun 1909 Edna b. 16 Apr 1911 Mary Belle b. 16 Oct 1912 Lena b. 26 Oct 1914 Jesse b. 12 Apr 1917 Male (name unknown) b.3 Oct 1920. At this time I do not know who the Noel children married. I do know that Jesse Noel (the son) moved at some point to Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas. He died there in November of 1975. I am currently trying to see if he had a family there. I am very interested in any information of the above families and thier descendents. Aria Snow was the sister of my GGGrandfather John Jackson Snow. I have a few postcards signed by her. I may even have photos, but I do know know what she or her family looked like. Thanks Kathy Snow

He was a brother to my great-grandfather, Pinkney Nathaniel Melton (he went by Nathaniel). They were the sons of Henry Harrison Melton and Prudence Dishman. I have found two obituaries on Norval: DEATH OF NORVILLE MELTON After being sick only nine days, Norville Melton, called by his friends "Doc" Melton, died at 11 o'clock Sunday night at his home on east Eleventh street of obstruction. He leaves a wife and several children. He was born 59 years ago in Salt Creek township and moved to the city seven years ago where he followed carpentering. Funeral will be held at ten o'clock Tuesday at the Knight school house. This came from the newspaper the BLM Weekly Courier 21 Apr 1908. I don't have a date or newspaper to this next obit. Here it is: OLD CITIZEN DEAD An old resident of the city passed away last night in the death of Norval Melton at his home on east Eleventh street at 11 o'clock. Mr. Melton, who was popularly known as "Doc", was a carpenter here for 22 years coming from Bloomfield in 1886. He was 56 years old. He leaves a wife and 8 children, Bessie, Harry, Goldie, Donald, at home, Bert Melton at Linton, William at Chicago, Mrs. Ida Ashcraft at Linton and Mrs. Clyde Jenkins of this city. His death was caused by peritonitis. The funeral is to be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the Knight school house, north of town. I also have this. It came out of the Bloomington Telephone (semi-weekly), Friday 19 Oct 1906: A surprise party was given Saturday night at the Norvel Melton home in honor of their daughter Bessie's 18th birthday. Games and music were a happy feature, and refreshments of ice cream, cake and fruit were served. It was a happy event for the little company of friends and Bessie was remembered by many nice presents. Best regards and happy hunting! Carla charris@texas.net

    3. The easiest way is to go south out of Spencer on 231 & 67. There's a fork in the highway at the Burger King, going right is 46, going left is 231 & 67. Continue south through Freedom and through Worthington. South of Worthington is a flasher light (not a stop), turn to the left there onto 57. Stay on that road until you get to a flasher light that's a four-way stop. Turn left there on 54, and it takes you right into Bloomfield, and the courthouse is on the right side of this highway in the middle of town. You couldn't miss it. The library is not far away, and I'm sure someone at the courthouse can give you directions from there. Bloomfield is SMALL, so everything is pretty close together! ;) Ellie Terrell Worthington : :I'm coming to Owen Co. , Spencer, next week and was hoping that :someone could :help me in getting from Spencer to Bloomfield. 2. Does anyone have an interest in the old miller Alexander Craig on Eel River in the early l820's? I have reason to think he's an ancestor and am trying to determine his 5 un-named sons mentioned in something I read. Is he the father of James who m. Sally (Sarah) Hart of Owen County who later ended up in Clark Co., Illinois? Is he the father of my g-g- grandfather Thomas J. Craig who was in Clark Co., Illinois but whose sons ended up in Greene/Clay, Indiana? James had twin girls, Thomas J. had twin girls, Two of Thomas J.'s sons had twin girls. I have lots of documents on Alexanders from these areas and there are many repetitions of first names. So...because I've collected records for 42 years I have much information, but no documentation or proof, only intriguing "evidence" re old Alexander on the river who was the dad of Martha "Patsey" Craig who married John Fires, the first wedding in Greene. I believe Martha was the sister of my g-g-grandfather Thomas J. Craig. ~~Dixie Kline Richardson

    2. My trip to GREENE CO. IN was in search of a cem. stone for my gr. grandfather SOLOMON YOUNG. He married CHARLOTTE CATHERINE TIMMONS 1858 and had my grandfather HORACE GREELEY YOUNG in 1859. He wasnt on the 1860 census but, we found him on a stone in BLOOMFIELD IN with 3 names on the stone. His death was shown as May 21 1861, on top of the stone, and on the left is his wife who died 1907 and her 2nd husband ABRAHAM BOLTZ 1908 death. This bothered me as I didnt think he was buried there. I later came into a BOLTZ descendent A HAMM and he told me family lore was that he died in MO. and Charlottes father and brother went to MO, LAMAR, in AUG 1861 and brought her home, traveling at night, as they were afraid, because of the CIVIL WAR turmoil. I looked in the 1860 census and there they SOLOMON s family were in MO. I dont know how he died, He was only 22. But, he might have been with H.S.TRUMANS grandfather SOLOMON (UNCLE) to my SOLOMON, who lived in LAMAR MO. where H.S.T. was born in his house. My gr.gr. WM.HARRISON YOUNG was brother to H.S.T.s Grandfather. He and my SOLOMON b 1840-1861 in MO. were born in KY. and Jackson Co. IN. Also JACOB YOUNG 1764 N.C. -1836 Jackson Co. IN REV.WAR. H.S.T.s GR. grandfather. They were GERMAN descent (JUNG). To USA 1752 JOHANN GEORGE JUNG YOUNG 1730s-1790 N.C. Our YOUNG line was in INDPLS, IN but all over now. Horace had 5 children, and he and wife LUCINE PHIPPS moved to INDPLS and she died 1805., and he in 1911. The children were moved around and one adopted as a baby. Lucine is buried in BLOOMFIELD by her parents, WM and Mary Ann BOWMAN PHIPPS. Our book is in the BLOOMFIELD library. Mildred Young Rebennack

Ellie Terrell Worthington, IN : :>October is Family History Month. In honor of this I offer you the :>following challenge... : :Mary A. SHEPHERD was b. c. 1829 in Indiana and married James B. RITTER on :5 Sep 1846 in GREENE County, Indiana. I do not know exactly where or when :Mary died, but I do know that she was not part of James Ritter's household :in 1870 and that her children eventually had a stepmother. It is :possible that :she died in Polk Co. Missouri, as the family resided there for a time, but :James :and their two children were listed in the 1870 census in Highland :Twn., Greene : Co., IN. I have found two SHEPHERDs in Greene Co. IN who could well be :related :to Mary--John, b. c. 1795 KY and Frederick, born between 1760 and :1770, but I :have not been able to make any family connections or to identify :her parents. : :Roberta : : : :==== INGREENE Mailing List ==== :Please do not send messages with attachments, HTML, MIME, or any :other enhanced text to the list. 1. [INGREENE] Daisy Dyer Archer
    2. Hi: Found two articles on Daisy. They are both posted on my Dyar/Dyar site. Tots' Sad Plight By Special Correspondent. LINTON, Ind., Sept. 7, --Two little tots aged five and seven were taken to the county poor house yesterday afternoon as a result of the killing of Mrs. David Archer and the arrest of their father. It is believed that in case Archer is sent up for a long period that some kind people will adopt the children and give them a home. Terre Haute Tribune, Sept. 8, 1912 page 12. LINTON MAN SHOOTS WIFE. Fired into Group of Friends Gathered at Home. LINTON, Ind., Sept. 2, ---Promiscuously emptying a revolver into a party of three men and three women, who he found at his home, David Archer, miner, 48 years old, instantly killed his wife Sunday night. Suspicion of infidelity caused the tragedy, Archer tells through the Linton jail bars. He was placed under arrest by Officer Roy Pope, shortly after the slaying. Shots arounsed the neighbors, who telephoned the police. Archer made no resistance, and was found alone in the house with the body. Three women and two men witnesses had fled the scene. He was placed in the Linton jail. Coroner Johnson secured a statement from one of these to the effect that Archer entered the house at 11:30 o'clock, surprising the party in his home. "I''ve heard that you are running around with other men, and now I have found you out," shouted the husband, as he opened fire. Two shots passed through a window; two were buried in the wall, and the fatal fifth found in Mrs. Archer's brain. Archer was employed by Vandalia mine No. 3 (8?) (hard to read). Terre Haute Tribune, Sept. 2, 1912.
