    1. Surnames - Smith, Webb
    2. Hello, I have just joined the list and am hoping that I may be able to find out something about my ggGrandparents: Lewis SMITH born October 17, 1825 Ohio Elizabeth WEBB born April 21, 1830 North Carolina married August 31, 1848 Pleasant Twp, Grant co, Indianna Webb is probably not her maiden name as I am told that she was previously married. She had a son, Luther Webb, in 1845. Other children are: Arabella born 1850 Indianna William R. born 1852 Indianna John D. born 1853 Indianna Thomas J. born 1857 Iowa Sarah born 1858 Iowa Carrie Lucretia born September 22, 1861 Iowa George B. born February 2, 1864 Iowa The story is that Lewis SMITH moved with his family from Ohio to Grant Co, In in 1828. I don't know the names of any of his siblings or that of his parents. Nor do I know the names of any siblings or parents of Elizabeth. Does any one know of any marriages in 1844-1846 for a Mr. Webb and an Elizabeth? I would really like to find her maiden name. (On her marriage entry to Lewis Smith in 1848, her name is not listed as 'Mrs.' Elizabeth Webb.) I would like to correspond with anyone who has any information on these people. I am willing to share what I have. I would also appreciate any help from anyone on finding out anything about Lewis and Elizabeth. I have checked obituarys, death records, etc. to no avail. Thanks, Kathy

    1. IOOF cemetery lookup
    2. Annette DeHoff
    3. Sheila Watson posted several obits this weekend for the Burden family in Grant Co. While this isn't my family, they are part of the group of families with whom my Jeffries traveled . My gg-grandmother, Minnie B.Jeffries, was last heard of 1903 in Gas City, married to a James Tomlan or Tomlinson. If someone has cemetery records for the IOOF cemetery mentioned in the obits (sorry, it doesn't specify which one and I see there are two in the county)can you please take a look for Minnie Jeffries/Tomlan, born about 1874? The Jeffries and Burden families were not black, but were descendants of the Saponi tribe from Virginia and North Carolina. You can see a bit more about them and their struggle to be identified as native americans on my Jeffries webpages. http://users.nni.com/dehoff/jeffriesfam.html Thank you in advance for helping solve a family mystery. 1. Malhon Neal Family
    2. Doris Neal
    3. Hi listers, Here's hoping someone on this list can help find the information I want. I was wondering if you had more information on Mahlon Neal's family other than what appears in the Grant County History. Mahlon was a brother to my second great grandfather, Henry Neal. Mahlon married Henry's wife sister, Rachel Duncan. Their children were William (who helped write the history of Grant County), Margaret, Eli, James, Lydia and Caleb. Of course, William is in the history book as well as Eli. Their children are mentioned as well as Eli's grandchildren. There's nothing about William's grandchildren nor his other siblings, Margaret, James, Lydia or Caleb. The family first appeared at the Missisesnewa Monthly Meeting in Liberty Township Grant County in 1839. I would appreciate any input. Where did the descendants go or did they stay Grant County. Thank you in advance. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you. Doris Louise Neal, A Hoosier
