    3. Hi to the group. My great-grandfather, John George Bowman, left Grant Co. about 1870. My great-grandmother, Rosannah Coppock Diltz Bowman, died in Kent, IN about 1875. John George is then in Berry Co., MO by 1880. He is in Indian Territory, OK by 1890 and dies at the Civil War Veterans Home in KS in 1905. His migration pattern was: PA>OH>IN>MO>OK>KS Maybe this will help someone in their search. Kathryn

    3. Hello list, here are some of the results of my query about destinations out of Grant Co after the gas boom ended: Oklahoma and the oil fields were the destination of some members of the Boxell, Stackhouse and Corey families. Coffeyville, Kansas was the destination of some members of the Coahran, Hasty and Mohler families. Another list member volunteered that the Fairmont News (which is on microfilm) had small snippets here and there about who had traveled where and sometimes would list things like "Where are they located". If you are in the area, the Fairmont News appears to be good reading and possibly has helpful information. McClain family migrated to Maricopa Co, Arizona about the turn of the century. Another list member has posted that her great-grandfather was employed by the WPA in Grant Co. That is an interesting thought - does anyone know where a list of workers employed by the WPA might be found? If anyone else has suggestions about migration patterns in Grant Co, IN please post them to the list. Hope someone finds something useful here. Annette netandmike@nni.com

    3. I have had some helpful replies about migration OUT of Grant Co. One list member had family move to Oklahoma between 1903 and 1913. Another had family members that moved to Ohio. For those that worked the gas boom, it appears that many came to Grant Co and then moved on. Perhaps it would be helpful to post to the list where and when people migrated out of Grant Co. If anyone had Jeffries or Tomlin(son) leaving Grant Co, I would be happy to talk to you. I believe that Minnie Jeffries Tomlin(son) moved out of Grant Co, but still may have been somewhere near Allen and Noble Counties in the late 1910s and early 20s. My grandmother remembers my g-grandmother, Wilma, talking about how she was not allowed by her mother-in-law to go take care of her mother, Minnie, when she was sick. This was early after her marriage in 1916, so Minnie probably wasn't too far away. Of course, my grandmother also "knew" that Wilma's mother's name was Lydia - looking for Lydia took many, many years - thank goodness for the social security form. It is probably the only concrete evidence that Minnie (not Lydia) was Wilma's mother. Thanks for listening! Annette

    3. In my search for my gg-grandmother, Minnie Jeffries Tomlin(son), someone has suggested that after the gas boom in Gas City people left the area for other employment. Does anyone know if there was a general exodus to another specific area? Is there any record of many families migrating out of Grant Co in the early 1900s to another location? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Annette netandmike@nni.com

Hi Brad, I thought i responded to your Duling post yesterday, but when i went through my sent files it shows i somehow sent it to the Delaware Co mailing list instead of the Grant Co. i am not connected to the Duling surname but I have a Joel Duling in my database.
