    3. Lisa and others: Thanks for posting the info. Here's a couple of comments. Barnaby's will, signed on 31 Jan 1833 as you correctly note, does mention a daughter Edith (she was given "1 cow", according to the abstract of the will that appears in "Johnston County Will Abstracts 1746-1879" revised edition compiled 1981 by Elizabeth E. ROSS), but I don't know whether "Edith" is the same person as the "Betsy" who married Sam LEE. According to the abstract, the end of the will contains the following (copied verbatim): ..... Rem. prop. to be sold and applied to paying debts. Any rem. money to be equally divided between children and heirs: William, Edith, Isaac, John, Joanna, Betsy INGRAM, Emorly INGRAM, Aquilla's daughter Leacy, Joanna and Bethana INGRAM. ..... So, these heirs seem to include both an Edith and a Betsy. I guess one possibility would be that the "Edith" listed among the children and heirs was Barnaby's wife. This would leave open the possibility that "Betsy" is the same person is the "daughter Edith" who received the cow. But I bet this isn't the case. I bet the "Edith" among the children and heirs is Barnaby's daughter and that Betsy was was someone else, very possibly another daughter. This makes me want to see the actual will, instead of just the abstract! More comments below..... .......... >THIRD GENERATION > >7. She was married >to Samuel Landsdon LEE on 30 Mar 1821 in Johnston Co, NC. Edith INGRAM >and Samuel Landsdon LEE had no known children. "Ingram Family History" written and compiled by Mary Ruth Stultz contains long lists of Ingram marriages. In the Johnston Co., NC section there is the following marriage (copied verbatim): .............. 20 Mar 1821 Betsy Ingram and Samuel Lee, Jr. ............. I know for a fact that these are my great grandparents who migrated to McNairy Co., TN before 1850 and to Franklin Co., AR before 1860. This proof comes from an affidavit filed in support of the pension application Elizabeth LEE filed on her son Landsdon Washington LEE who died during the Civil War. The document is dated 9 Dec 1864 and includes a statement sworn to by John Wright INGRAM and Sewell INGRAM of Hamilton Co., IL (Elizabeth was living in Hamilton or Galliton Co., IL at this time and the document was sworn to in Hamilton Co. court). Here's what they (John W. and Sewell) swore to: "..on their oaths say, that they are acquainted with Mrs. Elizabeth LEE, and was acquainted with Samuel LEE her husband, that they were present and saw the said Elizabeth LEE (whose name before her marriage was Elizabeth INGRAM) and the said Samuel LEE married, by one James ADAMS a Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Johnson and State of North Carolina and they were married as aforesaid in the said County of Johnson State of Noorth Carolina about the month of February AD 1821." I capitalized the last names, but everything else is as written. Anyway, my point is that the INGRAM who married a Sam LEE in Johnston Co., NC in 1821 was named Elizabeth or Betsy and that this Betsy was probably a different person than the daughter Edith mentioned in Barnaby's will. One last thing, I've seen where many people have Sam LEE's middle name as "Landsdon". This is known to have been the first name of one of his sons. But I've never seen any other evidence that this was Sam's middle name, too. I wish I knew where this came from. I'm as guilty as anyone in spreading this around as until recently, I had him listed in my own records as "Samuel Landsdon LEE". But, I recently changed him to plain "Samuel LEE". These are the children of Sam and Betsy (INGRAM) LEE (all born in Johnston Co., NC): 1. James H. LEE (b. circa 1822, d. 1862 Sprinfield, MO) 2. Susan LEE (b. circa 1825, no idea what happened to her, not sure what the proof is that Sam and Betsy had a daughter named Susan) 3. Sir William LEE (b. circa 1827, not sure what happened to him, but he signed an affidavit in Hamilton Co., IL in 1864) 4. Kizza LEE (b. circa 1832, listed with her parents in the 1850 McNairy Co. TN census, from there I don't know what happened to her) 5. John Stephen LEE (b. 1838, d. 1892 Dallas Co., AR. My great grandfather) 6. Landsdon Washington LEE (b. circa 1840, d. 1862 Elkhorn Tavern, AR) 7. Samuel Ingram LEE (b.1841, d. 1914 Clark Co., AR near Dalark) 8. Levastus McKinney "Bass" LEE (b. 1843, d. circa 1913 AR, prob. in Sevier Co.) I devote more time to this family than any other in the course of my dabbling in genealogy. I've got tons of info if anyone is interested. Finally, I'd like to point out that I think it's better than 50-50 that Betsy INGRAM was the daughter of Barnaby. I'd just like to see proof. Write back to me to tell me what you think of all this. Best regards, Rod PS-just noticed one more intriguing thing in your info.... ............... 48. Harriet Jane INGRAM was born on 26 Feb 1826 in Johnston Co, NC. She died on 13 Jan 1861. She was married to Solomon Polk MCKINNIE on 27 Oct 1842 in Hardeman Co, TN. Harriet Jane INGRAM and Solomon Polk MCKINNIE had no known children. ............... Here's the name "MCKINNIE" seen in conjunction with the Johnston Co., NC INGRAMs". I've got Levastus McKinney LEE, and have always wondered where this name comes from. Do you know if Solomon Polk MCKINNIE was originall from Johnston Co., NC? It's hard to think of a possible connection between Levastus and Solomon, but then again, I haven't seen MCKINNIE anywhere else. ================= Rod Pennington Temple, TX rodpenn@sage.net
