I have just visited your website and checked out the family indicated, and certainly is the right timeframe. Not sure how to proceed to try and determine a connection, so welcome any ideas. A couple of things that might serve as clues one way or the other...our Rachel INGRAM's husband, Thomas SHREVE, was the son of Samuel and Sophia SHREVE and grandson of Caleb SHREVE and Hannah THORN of Burlington Co, NJ. These families were all longtime Quakers and in the case of Shreve's and Thorn's early colonists in Mass, Rhode Island and Long Island, New York. Samuel SHREVE fought in the revolution as did some of his relatives in Burlington Co. They were all disowned by Society of Friends for fighting and many of these ended up going to Pennsylvania. The Shreve genealogy book says that Caleb Shreve, the grandfather, died in Bedford Co, PA 8 Feb 1810, and that the father Samuel Shreve died in Fayette Co, PA in 1790, although have found no confirming evidence of this. Samuel's cousins, Israel Shreve and his brother and son, both also named Samuel, all were rev vets and moved to the same area, apparently going closely after the war ended. Sophia and her children all went down the Ohio River, sometime before 1820 is all we have heard, and settled in what is now Brown Co, Ohio. One son James went back to Venango Co, PA and remained there. Don't know where Rachel INGRAM and Thomas SHREVE were married, but the date given was 9 Jan 1811. Nine children born starting in 1813. Enclosing family group sheet below as maybe names of children's spouses will provide clues. There is also a reference from History of Fayette Co, PA on a John Ingram who was an indentured servant in 1770 Anyway, I don't believe that they ever sought reinstatement to Quakers. I don't know what happened to those who were disowned at that time, whether or not they still lived around and interacted with active Quakers. Wish I had more to go on! While in the employ of Wm. Crawford in 1770 as an indentured servant, murdered Indian Stephen, a friend of Crawford. While being sent to Gov. Penn. for punishment, he escaped and was never heard from afterwards. Pretty interesting stuff, huh? The name is given 3 different spellings in the index. There is no listing for Thomas Shrieve(Shreve) , but there is for Samuel, (pp.710-712, 716). Sam was Lt.Col. of the First Batallion of New Jersey in the Continental line. He was the brother of Col. Israel Shreve. The Col. had a son Sam who settled in what is now the twp. of Perry in Fayette Co. and was one of the original proprietors of the town of Perryopolis. Their land was bought from George Washington. The Proprietors bought the land for the town from a George Meason, which is one of my lines.
