James Wilson Ingram was in the 1840 census for Washington Co, AR. He died there in 1846, leaving a will which named his children. My interest in this Ingram family stems from the fact that his daughter, Susannah, married Gilbert Looper, evidently about 1830. Putting together evidence from family stories and Civil War pension of Gilbert's son Gilbert Cox Luper, we believe James Ingram is in 1830 Bledsoe Co, TN. The listing there fits what is known of James Ingram's family. There is a male in the 1830 hshld b 1800-1810, does not fit known children of James Ingram, which would seem to be Gilbert Luper, who is not found elsewhere in 1830 under any spelling of the name.In 1831 Gilert received a Tennessee Land Grant in neighboring Rhea Co, where his brother Allen was living. James Ingram had land grants in Bledsoe Co in 1828 and 1835. By 1837 or so, it appears that the Lupers and James Ingram had sold out their land in TN and were on their way to Arkansas, perhaps stopping along the way in Bedford Co, TN. I believe this adds to what has formerly been known of the Washington Co, AR, Ingrams. The Lupers seem to have come from Robeson Co, NC. Possibly were from Bladen and Johnston Cos in NC before that. I would like to hear from anyone who might have knowledge of Ingrams from that part of NC before 1830. Missing a James, possibly born about 1770 or 1780? (P S. In 1860, the name got spelled Engrum in the census in Washington Co, AR. Like Luper, Ingram lends itself to creative spelling.!)
