'The Heritage of Caswell County North Carolina 1985' written by Jeannie D. Whitlow Article #365 Benjamin INGRAM Benjamin Ingram and his sons were in Caswell Co. when it was still a part of Orange Co. One Isaac Write (Wright) wrote his will May 26, 1772. The witnesses were Bridger Haynie, Abraham Miles and Benjamin INGRAM. Caswell Co deeds prove that these men were neighbors. Benjamin In gram received a land grant October 13, 1783 for 640 acres on the waters of Rattlesnake creek. The records of Orange Co and Caswell Co do not show any land transaction for Benjamin before this date. The name of Benjamin's wife is not known. Benjamin died in 1789 and only one court record pertaining to his estate has been located in court session of July 1789 it was so ordered that the land of Benjamin INGRAM, deceased, be equally divided between his three sons, James, John and Charlton INGRAM. Each received 213 1/3 acres. On April 20, 1792 Charlton sold his share to his brother, James INGRAM. Two of the brothers, John and James, lived in Caswell Co the rest of their lives and raised several children (see separate Articles). Charlton married Lucy Womack in 1778 and they remained in Caswell Co a number of years about 1807 they headed west and settled in Caldwell Co Kentucky. There Charlton is listed on the tax records from 1809 until 1825. It is presumed he died about 1825 but no records are available. --Pat Pastusek Satterfield Beth Dodd beth@oakvalley.com http://www.oakvalley.com/adams/ http://www.oakvalley.com/genealogy/
