    1. GENEALOGY COOKBOOKS
    2. NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT POST ANYTHING ABOUT THIS MESSAGE TO THE MAILING LIST. For any comments or flames, please post to me, privately!!! Sandra Duncan purplevw@sl.net Hello list subscribers; This is a little announcement about donations to Rootsweb. For several days, the listowners list has been kicking around ways to get more money into Rootsweb so that they can buy better equipment to serve us better. PLEASE REALIZE THAT THIS IS VERY PRELIMINARY AND MAY NOT COME TO PASS. What some have come up with is a genealogy cookbook. Nothing has been decided yet, so I am asking my subscribers to help me get this started. PRIVATELY -- send me your ideas. PRIVATELY -- send me your recipes. PRIVATELY -- send me your title suggestions which must have the word ROOTSWEB in the title. I have a recipe that I grew up thinking was Portuguese only to change my mind that it must be a family recipe and then to change my mind to that it was a recipe from the little town near Salinas, CA. where my Mother was born and raised and I may be wrong on all counts. I plan to put the recipes on the left page and the genealogy stories (my story above) or surnames you are seeking on the right side. I plan to include a recipe from my 5 year old grandaughter and the story of how she came to write it down for me. You might want to tell your recipe for chicken flambe and then a little story about how it became favorite dish for family get-togethers. Or, you might just want to put you favorite recipe with the family names you are seeking. Or, you might just want to send in a recipe without a story. Using the publishers criteria, I will be editing the recipes for spelling and grammar. I am thinking that I will divide it into breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and other parts to keep it simple. Also, no do-able recipe will be turned away just because there are/is another 4 of the same recipe. You get to choose if you want your name, address, E-mail address or whatever. So, the recipe book will be about 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 and probably spiral bound. The idea is that it will be published and sold without costing us one single penny. Hopefully, it will cost under $10 each so that we can all afford one and I already know that I want at least 5. I am hoping to have the Rootsweb logo on the front of the book. Again, this is all preliminary and may never come to pass. There could be so many things that could happen that will stop it. Publisher has to accept it, Karen has to OK it, you subbers have to send in your stuff and buy the books. Actually, I believe that a genealogy cookbook will be a great thing and that we will all want copies and we will make $$$,$$$,$$$ for Rootsweb. Realistically, if I could just get them the equivalent of $1.00 for each of my subscribers, Rootsweb would be $2,500 richer. Probably would not buy a button on a new super computer to serve us all, but then who knows. Final warning, I already know that the publisher will pay 10% to Rootsweb so if the book sells for $10.00, Rootsweb will only get $1.00. I find that if we can do this, it will be wonderful and we will all know we contributed and that for every book we buy, Rootsweb will get another $1.00 As I have several threads out to Karen and to a publisher, I do not know if it will work. You will know as soon as I do. I am shooting for a time slot of end of March to get a manuscript to the publisher...or even sooner. Let me know what you think...and please try to be kind.
