I got this in my mailbox today from my AOL news preferences for "lumber." Too strange, huh? Hoping someone out there will find it useful, if not at least amusing. Laura Weatherford Natchitoches, LA From Noble Heritage of Both Rebels and Yankees
I found a couple of interesting details the other day. In the Abstract of NC Wills, LDS Fiche number 6019970, for Robeson Co NC there was a will for John Lee in 1792, mentions Shadrack, Rebecca, Jackson, Jemima, Cinlaw, Ragor, Bullard, Elizabeth. Since we have those Ingrams and Lee connected in Johnston Co, with Shadrack Ingram, I wondered if this Shadrck Lee might connect the Johnston and Robeson Co Lees? In the family listing sent by PowellJP&@aol.com on Jan 31, for the descendants of William Ingram b abt 1720 d 1771 in Johnston Co NC, there is Shadrack Ingram who married Ann Rains? and lived in Johnston Co NC. They had a daughter Eleanor who married a James Lee, nothing more shown. There is a James Lea who is listed in the Rhea Co, TN entry takers book, this is on fiche at LDS library, #6104497. I realize there are a lot of James Lees around but thought someone might want to know for future reference. There is also a John Lee, son of Elizabeth Ingram and William Lee, who went to Bledsoe Co TN. I just happened to have the TN Land Grant Index (LDS 1002736) for the L's so I looked for Lee in bledsoe Co. There were a number of Lees there, including Elisha (1837), Elizabeth (1849() Francis (1849), Grace (1828), Isaac (1839), John Lee and Isaac Rainy 1833, John Lee and James Cowan 1833, John Lee and Ephraim thurman 1836, William Lee 1820, 1825 and 1828. Also an entry for Joh Lea and William S Whiteside in 1838, and for 5000 acres in 1828. Placing John Lee in Bledsoe Co in the same time frame as James Ingram, who was in the 1830 census in Bledsoe Co seems to indicate to me a connection to this Johnston Co line of Ingrams and Lees. Does anyone know of any additional research on the Ingrams in Johnston Co, NC, that might provide a connection to James Wilson Ingram? An interesting note is that the surveyor for Rhea Co in that time frame was James Wilson. Another coincidence? Now that I have identified two of the sons in law of James Ingram in Rhea Co, which adjoins Bledsoe Co on the east, I feel pretty well sure that we are talking about the right James Ingram to be the same one who went to Washington Co, AR, by 1840, along with sons in law Gilbert Luper and Young B Monday.
A Solomon Ingram married Elizabeth Pane 26 Aug 1847 in Calhoun Co, AL. Other marriages listed for Calhoun Co are: 1830 Elizabeth Ingram = Hiram Howard 1838 Miss E. J. Ingram = James Montgomery 1846 James M Ingram = Elizabeth Hoyle 1847 Catharine Ingram = Dodson Kellga 1847 Malinda Ingram = Robert Killgore 1847 Syntha Ingram = James Killgore This is not my line. I hope this helps. Steve Freeman

I went back to look at that Rhea Co TN entry takers list. Discovered there is a land Entry (No 213) for Young B Monday, 4 Mar 1833, 100 acres on Waldens Ridge near Calvin D Gipsons line and Waterhouses corner. This was surveyed 18 Oct 1833. I don't see him in the census in either 1830 or 1840, but he was in Washington Co AR in 1850. Arthur Monday lived near Allen Luper in 1830 Rhea Co, was in the 50-60 age range. William Monday had a land entry in 1831 same area. A Frank Monday was also in the 1830 Rhea Co census but didn't look that up. The point is that there could not possibly be two Young B Mondays--well, highly unlikely. And young B Monday married James W Ingram's dughter, James W Ingram living in Bledsoe Co just west of Rhea in 1830.

Hello, Lately, there have been several **OFF-SUBJECT** matters being posted to several of my lists and it is a real good time to remind everyone about this. These lists are given to us to freely use in the matters of genealogy and the eternal pursuit of our family trees. Whenever anything else is posted to one of the lists, VIRUS WARNINGS, > \ MISSING CHILDREN, > \ FLAMING, >>-----> ALL SPAM / ATTACHMENTS, > / TEST MESSAGES, > ADVERTISEMENTS CUTE JOKES <Yea, even mine>, I have just learned that it is all considered SPAM. We have many new subscribers so this is mostly for them. I have been fortunate to have been given the honor to run these lists and I take this very seriously. There have been times when I have departed from good list manners and I may do it again. But, because I run these lists, it is my call and priviledge. However, I do try to set a good example. All I ask is that if you have anything 888-OTHER-THAN-GENEALOGY-888 to post, that you contact me first. You will gradually notice that the tag lines that follow each message will change to reflect this policy. Alas, there are only 4 lines that we can add to the bottom of the posts, never enough space, never enough time. Recently, I have received several off-subject messages. One for a missing child---HOAX. One for an ill child that was dying--HOAX One for a contest in which Bill Gates would give you a prize--HOAX One for a --JOIN THE CREW-- virus--HOAX One for an ill child to get cards that would benefit RED CROSS--HOAX One for an FCC warning--HOAX and settled in March 1997 There are others. What I have been told by BRIAN & KAREN and others who run Rootsweb, is all of this unneccessary garbage takes up space on the listserver computer that we all rely upon to allow us to contact each other. Recently, because of someone who posted a HOAX to many of the lists, BRIAN was so busy dealing with it that he was unable to get the archives up and running as promised. It was so serious, to them, that they <BRIAN & KAREN> TEMPORARILY unsubbed the person just to make a lasting impression. Trust me, the person needed a VERY LOUD wake up call. Some of the listowners get so upset that they not only unsubscribe the person who sends these kinds of messages, they block them from resubscribing. Believe me, it would have to be pretty serious for me to go to such lengths. As to attachments, we all HATE them. Some people who post are not aware that their E-mail programs send out an attachment with every message. They are gently asked to reconfigure their mailing program to remedy this. Some E-mail propgrams also send out strange markings known as HTML code with a lot of weird markings. This is not serious, only annoying. The bad ones are the attachments that are sent to mailing lists. Not all computers can take a large attachment and it can hurt their hard-drive and/or lock up their computer and/or mail program. The wisest thing to do if you have a really hot item to share is to explain it in a message to the list and ask persons to E-mail you privately for a copy of the attachment IF THEY ARE INTERESTED. Funny, my lists have over 2000 subscribers and this message is directed to the 2% who do not know my wishes, have forgotton, are newbies or just plain do not care. But, imagine that the 2% =EQUALS= over twenty persons who go outside our guidelines for these lists. Of all of the lists that I run, I am constantly amazed at how wonderful they are. There have been no flames, and few of the above stuff so that I really cannot complain. However, because I have seen things get out of hand very easily, I try to nip the little stray parts before they go crazy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps you should just ask yourself, DO MOST OF THE PEOPLE ON THIS LIST NEED TO SEE THIS MESSAGE? You know, sometimes I get a message with just an answer because they did not leave a little bit of the old message so I that could follow....like... Yes, Joe, I see your point and I like that method also. Huh? Who is Joe? What point did he make? What method do they both like. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to go surfing with just one word NETIQUETTE. I have done this recently and that is why I am making subtle changes in the way I manage the lists. Sorry, the bigger we get, the more management we need. Just stay on subject and you will be fine. If for some reason you cannot surf, E-mail me privately and let me know & I will do it for you and send. One list thing, and not a real big one. Someone told me, that when you have many names to send a message to, it is better to place the addresses in the __Bcc: part of the header.__ This stops anyone from replying to all, even in error, stops the SPAM SCUM who troll for E-mail addresses and all in all, makes for a better looking message. ======================================================================== Yes, this is getting to be a very long message, but I feel that it is needed right now. Coakley Durham Ingram = Taylor-KY Boyle-KY Hart-KY Jefferson-KY Adair-KY **** Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Green County. SAMUEL D. COAKLEY, M.D., was born February 3, 1855, and is the third of four sons and one daughter born to George and Martha J. (Durham) Coakley. George Coakley was born on Pitman Creek in 1821, was a substantial and leading farmer and slave-holder. Mrs. Martha Coakley was born in Taylor County in 1828, and is a daughter of Samuel M. Durham. Dr. Coakley was born on Brush Creek, Green County, was reared on a farm, and became sufficiently advanced in the common schools to enable him to enter Center College, Danville, at the age of eighteen years, two years later attending school at Canmer, Hart County. In the meantime he studied medicine and entered and graduated from the University of Louisville, medical department, in 1878, and located where he now resides, ten miles northwest of Greensburg, where he has had a successful and extensive practice. He is a member of the county board of health, and also runs a farm of 160 acres of fine land, which he has embellished with a fine residence and substantial outbuildings. He married September 18, 1878, Nancy V. Ingram, of Taylor County, a daughter of Walter W. and Bettie W. (Edwards) Ingram, natives of Adair and Green Counties respectively. To this happy union four children have been born: an infant and Ada (deceased), Walter G. and Bettie J. The Doctor and wife are members of the Baptist Church, and he is a strong advocate of the temperance cause.
James Wilson Ingram was in the 1840 census for Washington Co, AR. He died there in 1846, leaving a will which named his children. My interest in this Ingram family stems from the fact that his daughter, Susannah, married Gilbert Looper, evidently about 1830. Putting together evidence from family stories and Civil War pension of Gilbert's son Gilbert Cox Luper, we believe James Ingram is in 1830 Bledsoe Co, TN. The listing there fits what is known of James Ingram's family. There is a male in the 1830 hshld b 1800-1810, does not fit known children of James Ingram, which would seem to be Gilbert Luper, who is not found elsewhere in 1830 under any spelling of the name.In 1831 Gilert received a Tennessee Land Grant in neighboring Rhea Co, where his brother Allen was living. James Ingram had land grants in Bledsoe Co in 1828 and 1835. By 1837 or so, it appears that the Lupers and James Ingram had sold out their land in TN and were on their way to Arkansas, perhaps stopping along the way in Bedford Co, TN. I believe this adds to what has formerly been known of the Washington Co, AR, Ingrams. The Lupers seem to have come from Robeson Co, NC. Possibly were from Bladen and Johnston Cos in NC before that. I would like to hear from anyone who might have knowledge of Ingrams from that part of NC before 1830. Missing a James, possibly born about 1770 or 1780? (P S. In 1860, the name got spelled Engrum in the census in Washington Co, AR. Like Luper, Ingram lends itself to creative spelling.!)
