'The Heritage of Caswell County North Carolina 1985' written by Jeannie D. Whitlow Article #367 John and Mary INGRAM John and Mary (surname unknown) INGRAM were living in Caswell Co by 1779. On March 22, 1779 John bought 311 acres on both sides of Moon's Creek from James ROBERTS of Pittsylvania Co., VA. John also received a land grant of 595 acres on Lick Fork of Moon's Creek in 1783. John and Mary were parents of six children. Archibald INGRAM was born August 17, 1776. He married Mary 'Poly' NICHOLS in Person CO on Sept 16, 1802. (see separate article). Elisha INGRAM was born April 27, 1778. He married Margaret 'Peggy' TAYLOR on Nov. 3, 1808 in Caswell Co. Bondsman was Thomas BURTON, Elisha and Peggy lived in Caswell CO a number of years and then moved to Greenville Co, SC. Elisha died May 3, 1841 and Peggy died in 1866. James INGRAM married Betsy EVANS in Caswell CO on Oct 18, 1808. Bondsman was David WOMACK. Stephen INGRAM married Mira BUSH in Caswell CO on December 10, 1808. Elisha INGRAM was the bondsman. Elizabeth married Stephen CHANDLER in Caswell Co on Dec 21, 1805. John PINSON and William WILKERSON were bondsman and witness. Susannah Ingram married Jesse PERKINS in Caswell CO on August 19, 1795. Bondsman James BURTON. The will of John INGRAM was written July 15, 1820. Witness were Thomas SLADE, Henry A. BURTON, James WHITE, and Walker WHITE. John lent to hes wife, Mary, 160 acres during her life and at her death to his son, Stephen. He also left to Stephen "one set of Black Smith tools, which he now works with" John left 228 acres to Archibald, 200 acres to Elisha, and 150 acres to James . . . . Mary died in 1824. An inventory of her property was taken Oct 4, 1824 by the administrator, James INGRAM. Then an inventory was taken of the estate of John INGRAM deceased, lent to Mary INGRAM deceased. Court entries of these inventories the subsequent sale are dated Nov 2, 1824. --Pat Pastusek Satterfield Beth Dodd beth@oakvalley.com http://www.oakvalley.com/adams/ http://www.oakvalley.com/genealogy/
'The Heritage of Caswell County North Carolina 1985' written by Jeannie D. Whitlow Article #366 James and Mary INGRAM James and Mary (surname unknown) were very early residents of Caswell County. James received a land grant on Oct. 13, 1783. This grant represented 588 acres on both sides of Moon's creek. The next year James and Mary sold this land on July 17 to William HAYNIE. It is possible that James and Mary were already living on land that belonged to James' father, Benjamin INGRAM. After Benjamin died in 1789 his land was equally divided between James and his two brothers, John and Charlton. Then in 1792 Charlton sold his share, 213 1/3 acres to James. James and Mary had six children. They were named in the will of James INGRAM, but very little information has been located to tell us about them. Walter INGRAM - appears a number of times in Caswell Co court minutes and will books, but no family information is known. Priscella INGRAM - married Moses ALLEN in Caswell Co Court on May 2, 1795. Bondsman was John STARKEY. Could this Moses ALLEN be the same person appearing in records of Smith Co, Tennessee between 1820 and 1833? Vachell INGRAM - Died by 1812 and left orphans Benjamin, James, Caswell, John and Vachell. No guardianship records found in Caswell Co records. What happened to these INGRAM children? Clary INGRAM - married Sampson M. GLENN in February 1803. Bondsman was Thomas Harrelson Benjamin INGRAM - One of two youngest sons John INGRAM - one of two youngest sons. James INGRAM wrote his will on Oct 2, 1792. It was witnessed by his brothers John INGRAM and Charlton INGRAM. His wife, Mary and his friend, Solomon GRAVES, were executors. . . . James called Benjamin and John "my youngest sons" and designated land to be divided equally between them. A deed dated 1802 indicates that Vachell INGRAM sold his share to Walter INGRAM. In Cot 1798 Walter INGRAM was appointed guardian of Benjamin INGRAM, and Moses ALLEN was appointed guardian of John INGRAM> In May 1804 Henry ATKINSON was appointed guardian of John INGRAM. When Person Co was created from part of Caswell Co a new central location was needed for the courthouse of Caswell Co. The site chosen was on land of James INGRAM. James died before the sale was completed. The co paid Mary INGRAM, widow of James INGRAM, 150 pounds for 100 acres of land on March 3, 1794. --Pat Pastucek Satterfield Beth Dodd beth@oakvalley.com http://www.oakvalley.com/adams/ http://www.oakvalley.com/genealogy/
'The Heritage of Caswell County North Carolina 1985' written by Jeannie D. Whitlow Article #365 Benjamin INGRAM Benjamin Ingram and his sons were in Caswell Co. when it was still a part of Orange Co. One Isaac Write (Wright) wrote his will May 26, 1772. The witnesses were Bridger Haynie, Abraham Miles and Benjamin INGRAM. Caswell Co deeds prove that these men were neighbors. Benjamin In gram received a land grant October 13, 1783 for 640 acres on the waters of Rattlesnake creek. The records of Orange Co and Caswell Co do not show any land transaction for Benjamin before this date. The name of Benjamin's wife is not known. Benjamin died in 1789 and only one court record pertaining to his estate has been located in court session of July 1789 it was so ordered that the land of Benjamin INGRAM, deceased, be equally divided between his three sons, James, John and Charlton INGRAM. Each received 213 1/3 acres. On April 20, 1792 Charlton sold his share to his brother, James INGRAM. Two of the brothers, John and James, lived in Caswell Co the rest of their lives and raised several children (see separate Articles). Charlton married Lucy Womack in 1778 and they remained in Caswell Co a number of years about 1807 they headed west and settled in Caldwell Co Kentucky. There Charlton is listed on the tax records from 1809 until 1825. It is presumed he died about 1825 but no records are available. --Pat Pastusek Satterfield Beth Dodd beth@oakvalley.com http://www.oakvalley.com/adams/ http://www.oakvalley.com/genealogy/

Martin and Anna (HOWARD) INGRAM had at least 2 children (Archibald Franklin and Sidney Nichols) while they were living in Wilson Co. On 11 Oct 1831, Martin and Anna had inherited some land from Anna's mother, Mary (MONTGOMERY) HOWARD. It was 59 acres on Smith's Fork. Then again on 29 Dec 1832, Martin received 59 acres on Smith's Fork from George F. HOWARD. I wonder if it is the same land. I have no concrete evidence that Archibald moved with them. I know he died and is buried in Caswell Co. It is where his will is probated. I think your INGRAM branch is not descended from Archibald. . . . I think, but don't quote me, that we are related from John or James, a generation before Archibald. That would mean your John INGRAM is a cousin of my Martin INGRAM. Beth: I have been researching my wife's line of Ingrams for some time now. I am back to a John Ingram b 1805 in North Carolina. He married Eliza Todd on January 3, 1828 in Wilson County, Tennessee. This family moved to Texas in the early 1850's. Some of the brothers and sisters of John Ingram could be: Allen Ingram b ? m Nancy Todd James Ingram b abt 1809 m Catherine Loyd Mary Ingram b abt 1812 m John Harrington Jessee Ingram b abt 1820 Sarah Ingram b abt 1823 I don't know about all of them but I am pretty sure that John, James and Allen were all brothers. All three of them came to Lamar County Texas. I also heard from another Ingram researcher that an Archibald Ingram and Mary (Nichols) Ingram family moved from Caswell Co., NC to Wilson Co., Tennessee. From the notes that I had, I was not sure if the entire family or only some of the children of Archibald and Mary moved to Tennessee. Any idea if my Ingrams are tied to your Archibald? David
I am starting to collect information about my Caswell Co ancestors. In 1779, John Ingram sold the land on which the Yanceyville (pronounced YAN-kin-vil) Caswell Co NC courthouse. Unfortunately, John died before the sale of the courthouse was complete. His widow inherited the proceeds from the sale. Would you like a copy of the sale and/ or his will? I think (although the proof is lacking) that the NC INGRAM's came from Virginia. Maybe in a small town about 30 miles to the north near the Pittsylvania and Halifax county border . . . Ingram Virginia . . . hum Does anyone know which INGRAM the town of Ingram Virginia was named after? In what time period was it named? AND we have a match!! How much documentation do you have about Benjamin INGRAM? I have some leads that John and James INGRAM were his sons but have not confirmed it. Dear King: Which Ingram line is yours. Mine starts with Robert Ingram who came to MD in 1665.His family is found in both DL and MD records. My ancestor is Abraham who came to VA. Thanks Lyle Corder
I have seen many requests for information on the Ingram line. I am wondering how far back you have been able to trace your line. My direct line goes to 1625 where it hits a stone wall. I am still digging in the rubble. I do not feel there are as many separate lines of Ingram's as there seems to be. My line starts in Delaware and goes to Md. and Va. In the early 1800s it then immigrates west to Cal. Since there is a gap in the children of my ancestors, it may very well be that many went to NC and TN. Even to Ga. which I at present am unable to prove. Happy hunting. King292@aol.com
Thought I would post my Ingram family to see if anyone has a connection: James Wilson Ingram b abt 1780-1790 (possibly NC) d 1846 Washington Co., AR m Nancy ? James is found in 1828 in Bledsoe Co. (adjoining Rhea Co.), TN with a land grant. He is found in the 1830 census for Bledsoe Co. There is a possibility of a connection between James Wilson Ingram and William Ingram in White Co. Hi Listowners -- A couple of nights ago, Hotmail's servers went crazy and started sending us duplicate and triplicate copies of everything they sent us. We were receiving dozens of extra copies of their mail every second. That much mail can kill a mail server. In order to protect RootsWeb, we were forced to reject all mail coming from Hotmail for about fifteen hours. That means that between 1am and 6pm on December 3, anything sent from a Hotmail user to rootsweb.com was just discarded. Even with this protective measure in place, the mail server crashed twice overnight trying to deal with the barrage of Hotmail messages. This message is just to let you know in case your subscribers ask about disappearing mail, or in case any listowners are Hotmail users themselves and are wondering. Next week's RootsWeb Review will mention this problem, so there's no need to forward this message to your lists. -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative system obfuscator and hack-of-all-trades
Hello Patricia, My INGRAHAMS/INGRAMS also started out in VT. My earliest known Ingraham was Daniel Ingraham, who was born ca. 1780. He married Elizabeth DAY, they had some children in VT, among them my 2nd great grandfather, Milo Ingraham, (he also seems to have gone by Ingram.) Then the family moved for a time to Lake Co. OH, where they had Alvin in 1822. By the 1830's the family had relocated again, to St. Joseph Co. MI. Cathy Patterson > > hello > looking for information on James Ingram b.~1804 in VT m. Hi! I'm new to this list and am anxious to see if I can find any new leads on the Ingram branch of my family. I have traced a fairly solid line of descent back to John Ingram, born 1720's; died 1791 in Brunswick County (St. Andrew's Parish), VA, who married Patience Berry. Our direct line goes from him to John Ingram b. 1752 to Thomas Ingram b. 1781 (m. Sarah Hunnicutt 27 Sep1802) to Burrell Lafayette Ingram to Henry Clay Ingram b. 4July1844 to Burrell Lafayette Ingram II to my maternal grandmother, Halley May Ingram Norred. I've got one book that lists Charles Ingram, born ca1694, d.Feb1760 as possible father to John, but have nothing concrete to prove the connection. I look forward to hearing from anyone who may have some ideas on where to go from here. Thanks! Rob Stone Dalton GA
