Advisory Board Update 12/23 (#3) MINUTES OF USGENWEB PROJECT ADVISORY BOARD MEETING Emergency Session The Advisory Board of the USGenWeb Project met in emergency session on Monday, December 21, 1998, at 7:00 PM (CST). This meeting was called because Bob Bamford, Acting National Coordinator has submitted his resignation: "Genealogy is a hobby, we all enjoy the research, the contacts, the camaraderie and the thrill of the search. All of us, as a part of that hobby, volunteer in various genealogical and historical organizations, to both further our knowledge of the hobby and make a contribution to its furtherance. It can be fun and rewarding but unlike the work we do to gain our livelihood it provides no remuneration save that of having made a contribution. "When this volunteerism reaches a point that it is no longer rewarding, no longer provides satisfaction, but instead becomes a burden, it is time to disassociate yourself from those organizations that no longer provide any benefit. "I therefore submit my, unequivocal, resignation from all positions in the national USGenWeb organization, effective immediately, and direct said organization to immediately remove my name and e-mail address from all national pages. I will be unsubbing from all national mailing lists, immediately upon confirmation that this message has been received." If the nominee agrees to accept, they are asked to provide the committee with a link to their campaign page. This way the candidate is responsible for putting up the bio, etc. (which the committee did last year, and there were some communication difficulties <sigh>) Some things to remember. Names of the person doing the nominating are not released to anyone, including the nominee. Names of nominee's who decline the nominations are not released. Names of the nominee's who accept are released after they accept. They are added to the nominations page, and if they provide a URL for their campaign page, it is added to the nominations page.
