    3. Cathy and all. >Let me point out that not all Indiana CCs subscribe to INDYTALK. I, for >one, do not, and there are probably many others. So it cannot be assumed >that all CCs were made aware of the Indiana Bios Project at the time of its >inception. You're right here....not all were made aware through Indytalk because some were not subscribed. Since INGEN-L didn't archive back when I was SC for the Bios (I believe we may have still been on dsenter back in July/August 1997), I will not attempt to state for sure that I sent through both lists (although I do recall.....), but I know I sent through numerous other lists....many people were made aware of the project. >I remember the day I discovered it linked from the main state page and was >quite surprised that the county I host for INGenWeb was already taken. >When it went up for adoption recently, I decided to link to it rather than >adopt the county Bios project. >I have since started a GenConnect Bios board for my county because I >believe that system, with its worldwide index, is more widely known and >accessible. Someone mentioned that its main shortcoming is that after a >while, the list of postings disappears and many people don't seem to know >how to search it. The way I get around this is by making a link from the >county site to each new bio that is posted. So far, it works because there >aren't that many bios. :) If it works for you great! :-) >I don't think Darilee was saying that the Bios project should not exist at >all; I believe she was mainly upset that the link had been provided on the >SQOB page as if it were a link from her site. Didn't she say she may have >linked to it herself, had she known about it? Ok...I may see a glimmer of a point here....but, I don't think anyone would mistake one for the other considering the logos posted, the Coordinators names at the top of the pages, etc....I still don't see the point in getting *This* upset. >The problem is lack of communication. Sometimes I think important >discussions take place on INDYTALK that do not come across on INGEN-L. >When I unsubscribed from INDYTALK, it was because it was supposed to be the >place for "chit-chat" and I just couldn't handle that many more messages in >my already massive inbox. Is that still INDYTALK's purpose or has it changed? When I started the Indiana Biographies project I didn't have time, nor would I have had the desire, to try to find everyone from every county in Indiana who *may* be interested in coordinating a Co., or linking to one. I did post to numerous lists, including ROOTS-L, Indytalk, Kentuckiana-L, and I'm sure the information went through the Kentucky lists, to name only the few I'm sure of. Many people were made aware of the Biography project, and those who were not on any lists, only needed to go to INGenWeb Main page to see the link and banner (banner since has been replaced by a link). I just don't feel that all of this is worth complaining about. Atleast not to the point of giving up a county. If there is a complaint about a link, simply e-mail the person who posted it and politely ask for a revision. You'll catch more bees with honey! ;-) Dee
