When I saw the post come across the Indiana list about the Biographies Project about a month ago (yeah, I even got in late...it's been there for quite a while) I rushed to the Bio project page to check the status on the Lake County Bios (I'm the CC for Lake Co) and it was up for adoption....of course I adopted it because I already had about 15 bios on the Lake County GenWeb page. I also saw that Newton co was up for adoption. Then checked back a couple weeks later and it still was. I checked the Newton Co GenWeb page and he hadnt done anything towards putting bios up...he is doing more important things like census...thats a LOT bigger than biographies. Gotta locate someone (census) BEFORE finding out what their personal life was like (bios). But, I figured that Biographies were also important to a genealogist...who wants just names and dates to give their children?? So, I adopted Newton county biographies. Now, between him doing census, and me posting biographies...people with roots in Newton county can find a lot more information! And isnt that WHY we all adopted anything in these projects??? To give as much info to people as possible? Regardless of rules and regulations regarding wording for the project...I changed the intro for the Newton Co Bio page to read: "I am Kathy Huish and I am the coordinator for the Newton Co., Indiana Biographies." And: "If you would like to volunteer to coordinate a county biography project please contact the Indiana State Biography Coordinator Deb Murray" I simply added the word "biography" in the appropriate places. And it's had a link to the Newton County GenWeb since the day I put it up...it's called cooperation. And if everyone could cooperate...we'd help a lot of people out there! I also sent a post to the indiana bio list suggesting that other bio coordinators do this also.
