I am a CC and that is spelled C-O-U-N-T-Y C-O-O-R-D-I-N-A-T-O-R just like you are! I appointed the Guidelines and Procedures Committee after a vote of the InGenWeb on November 14, 1998 that voted on options and accepted: Option#2 The State Coordinator and a selected county coordinator will present five or six simple guidelines and call for a vote. These will pertain to elections, grievance inside the state, etc. - This is in full accordance with the UsGenWeb bylaws. > >Why is Indiana setting laws on this. Is this not more properly a function >of the U.S. level of GenWeb? Shouldn't they, and not you, be setting up >standards? We are not setting LAWS - we are voting on Guidelines and Procedures... - we voted against BYLAWS. In the UsGenWeb bylaws it states: ============================================================ Section 5. State projects are empowered to develop/adopt any additional rules/bylaws and guidelines, as appropriate, for their state so long as they do not conflict with these bylaws. State projects shall be highly encouraged to develop and adopt rules/bylaws that cover grievance procedures within the state ============================================================ == and -- we are in full compliance with the UsGenWeb. First and foremost InGenWeb is a part of UsGenWeb but Indiana is also an entity of it's own. Our main concern is for the researcher and how we can help as VOLUNTEERS in the State of Indiana. First and foremost we believe in starting at the County Level - connecting to the State level and then connecting to the US level... The UsGenWeb Bylaws states: > >As for the recent flap, I believe all of the VOLUNTEERS (capitalization >intended) understand that their sites are there to facilitate genealogical >research, so a bi-law mandating this is either a redundancy or a >patronization. If it is being done to prevent someone from also selling >snake oil from their site, I believe we also understand this without an >extra law. > I again repeat these are not LAWS they are Guidelines... >Secondly, I raised the issue of using non-standard terms like CC SC NC etc. >If they are abbreviations, standard or not, the laws governing the use of >English state that they must be written as C.C., S.C., and N.C., etc. And >then you need to have them defined somewhere publicly so that we know what >the hell you meant in the first place. Otherwise, they will be mistaken for >things such as South and North Carolina. I missed one GenWeb election last >year because some idiot said the vote was for SC and NC, which only the U.S. >Post Office uses as 2 letter codes (note that they are not abbreviations) >for the states. I ignored the vote because I'm in Indiana and have nothing >to do with North or South Carolina. Before there ever was a USGENWEB - I was a volunteer for three counties in Kentucky, which I love very much. At NO TIME when I volunteered for this job was I asked how much education I had or how I abbreviated or how I spoke English. When I volunteered for Indiana when the UsGenWeb was forming I had no application form either... Now Glen - you've irritated me this evening - and hit a very sore spot... I don't have a good education. I have a very poor education. I received my G.E.D. diploma while my mother was lying on her death bed and I was trying to care for her. I am what I am at at 62 years of age I am not going to change... > >Thirdly, since we are Americans, regardless of any superficial vote, most of >us will ignore BIG BROTHER, and do it our way, and in the best way we can. Now - to the Indiana Coordinator's... I love you all - and to you I apologize for this outburst... but I've received these letters for the last six days and it's time for it to STOP I am not your leader - I represent you for Indiana and I in now way rule any of you. YOU govern ME. Glen you owe me an apology . Betty a/k/a - Kyseeker of Kentucky and Indiana >Glen McGlothlin >La Porte GenWeb >
