Hi, Rush County & Indiana Mailers! I'm Sue Otte and I guess (okay, I *know*) I have taken over the Rush County Gen Page. If you only knew me personally, you would know how scary this is! Anyway, I'm the Director at the Rushville Public Library. I thought since I answer so many genealogy queries (via phone, US mail, & email) each week here at the Library, I was sort of a natural for the page. Just a bit about me... I was born here in Rushville 38 years ago (my parents are Fayette County natives). I have been researching my own family history (which is full of Quakers mostly) since I was a junior in high school. I graduated from Rushville High in '78, from Indiana University (majored in history) in '82, and from Ball State U (masters in library science) in '84. After doing stints in the libraries in Wells County, Indiana, and Perry Co, Ohio, I returned to Rushville in 1989 and was crowned Director of the Library (Sue the 1st!). By the way, you'll probably notice I have a strange sense of humor. I recently got married for the first time... my hubby's name is Ernie. We have two ornery cats (Cy & Izzy) who are trying to adjust to the new intruder (Ernie) in the house. Here in Rush Co, we seem to have a hard time finding people to do research. If you send me a note here at the Library, we can do searches in our Indiana Room (which, by the way if you haven't visited, is well worth a looksee). However, researching at the courthouse is another story. We used to have a couple of ladies who did researching. One is an elderly lady who is up to her neck in research and, unfortunately, under the weather... The other lady just sorta pooped out on us and left us high & dry. If anyone knows someone in or around Rushville who would be willing to do research outside the Library, please let me know. If you would like to visit the Rushville Public Library, you can do so on the web. Our address is http://comsys.net/rushlib/index.html On our webpage, we have a list of some of the items you can find in our Indiana Room. You can also find out our hours and things like that. You can reach me here at the Library at rushlib@comsys.net or personally at my home account which is spri@rush.cnz.com. Anyway, I hope I do a good job for you Rush Co researchers. I'll do my best! Let the wild rumpus begin! Sue Prifogle Otte
