Oftentimes I see these messages about needing help -- one tip I found was if you check some of the things already out there you can "narrow down" where you are searching and then go forward and backwards. For instance -- if you start with http://www.familytreemaker.com it tells you lots of info that is found on cds as well as other sites searching that name or which has info. If you don't have the cd sometimes it will tell you info -- like which county or census time, etc. and this gives you a place to look (even if not the same person it oftentimes makes "hits". I noticed in last one about this lady searching Bowers that when I plugged in the name there it showed a book of marriages for Harrison Co, IN for him and a Martha A. Clark (she had said the wife was Martha A. C. so that "sounds" like a good hit - and you could even see the date of marriage in the results it showed). http://www.gendex.com (choose the second option then follow it to accessing the surname info then plug in the name in exact box or soundex box and then follow to the names and see what you get -- sometimes if same state you can even find others searching same surname that have webpages. WorldConnect is another one like that - so much info and can narrow down your search. The USGenWeb Project (http://www.usgenweb.net) you can put queries in the exact county or the unknown county area -- then do a GLOBAL SEARCH and see who else is searching that surname in that state Once you find the county or counties then put a query in -- you will find LOTS of persons seeking same surnames in the same area -- and sometimes older persons or persons who just love going in the records will contact you with info about them that this person found. When you do the above then you don't need to send generalized messages and MORE persons will help you on the list -- I personally usually just glance at it and ignore if if it is general, but if they say something like: Lived in Pike, Gibson Co, IN area around turn of 20th century, then it perks me up and I will even go into my massive files to see what I have. I am sure others out there also would be piqued if you mentioned their county they search or do webpages for, or even general area (they went along the Ohio River between 1840 and 1880). Just suggestion. Judy M. At 08:08 PM 9/23/2001 EDT, BPJChris@cs.com wrote: >I need some ones help. Anyone who has any info on the Christie's of Indiana >would be helpful.
