Indiana Historical Society to Host Genealogy Lecture Genealogist Betty L. Warren to Discuss Reading and Interpreting Handwritten Records Betty L. Warren, president of the Indiana Genealogical Society, will present a lecture titled "Paleography: Historical Script" from 10:00 a.m. to noon on January 19 at the Indiana Historical Society. Warren's lecture will focus on techniques for reading and interpreting handwriting styles used in written records in English and/or European language documents from the 16th century through American colonial times and into the 19th century. She will also explore the three basic styles of old world handwriting and discuss the variable factors to consider when trying to read old documents including personal style, spellings, punctuation, abbreviations, foreign language, writing surfaces and utensils. The cost to attend Warren's lecture is $10; $5 for IHS members. Preregistration is encouraged as seating is limited.
