    3. Here is a copy of a letter I just made for my brother-in-law, Barry Justin Martin, with regard to his TOLER/MARTIN ancestry. This is the first time I put together everything I have and so am sending here to ya'll also -- maybe one of you have the answers on my missing info needed, or access to the 1900 census to verify that this family line is the same as Sallie Toler's or info on the MARTIN things I am lacking on the surnames and/or Indiana or Kentucky info needed: Here is letter as I sent it to him on his heritage: Barry, Anyway, as for your ancestry. I hadn't sent much since I hadn't found much YET (pretty sure we will take the MARTINs to England but haven't gotten there yet). What I did send much you or Carol had furnished for me and I have only added in a date or two, etc. Here is what I have found out so far: Your parents were Justin Toler MARTIN and Irene RAKOWITZ (her mother was Maggie (Rakowitz) Rakowitz. They married around 1942/43/44 and had 3 children: Carol, Pamela, and you (Barry Justin, b Jan 1945). Justin Toler MARTIN was b Jul 14, 1916 Princeton, Gibson Co, IN and d June 1975 (don't have day yet) San Antonio, Bexar Co, TX. (don't show where he is buried either). His parents were Clyde MARTIN and Sallie TOLER. He had a sister, Doris, b Mar 24, 1914 Palmyria, Harrison Co, IN and who married William HERMAN and had 2 children: Patsy b Oct 12, 1942 New Albany, Floyd Co, IN and Phyllis, b Feb 2, 1951 Phoenix, AZ. Clyde MARTIN was b Oct 20, 1887 Nabb, Clark Co, IN; d Jul 31, 1943 (? where or where buried; possibly Gibson Co, IN or Phoenix, AZ). Sallie TOLER was b May 30, 1892 Lewisport, Hancock Co, KY and d ? date, ? place - again possibly Gibson Co, IN or Phoenix, AZ). Unknown where they married (in IN or KY) Clyde MARTIN's parents were T. J. MARTIN and Anna (_____). Nothing else is know of their children or them and I have been unable to determine what T.J. stands for (might be something like Thomas Joseph or Thomas John, etc). Again unknown where they married or where they were born or died or any dates of these things) Sallie TOLER's parents were James H. TOLER, b ca 1848/50 KY and Betty E. (_____) , b ca 1855 KY. It is said that either James or Betty was born in Yelvington, Daviess Co, KY. (Evington, Davis co was what you or Carol had told me, but there has never been any such place and Yelvington would be correct as we did find them on census there). James H. TOLER d Dec 10, 1940 @age 92 Hancock Co, KY vol 57 cert 28386 vol 40. If he left a will it would be in this county and this timeframe. Same with the newspaper obituary which might have clues to his parentage and siblings. Haven't located Sallie's date and place of death yet. James H. TOLER was living in Yelvington Pct, Daviess Co, KY in 1880 census time and was age 30, he was born in Ky and both his parents were born in KY too. (still don't have name for his parents). He was married at the time of census and Bettie, age 25, b KY, both parents b KY was listed with him as wife as well as a son James Albert, 1, b KY. In 1870 census James is 20, b KY and living in the home of James Haywood, and James was still single -- so he will have married sometime around 1870 to 1878 probably in Daviess Co or Hancock Co. Also, this Precinct of Yelvington, KY is right on the Hancock/Daviess Co countyline. (Your family seels to "love" living on the county lines of states and making the research more "interesting"<ha,ha>) In 1870 there was also a Camden TOLER also living in that pct. and was single, 17, b KY and a possible brother or cousin of James'. Camden was living in the home of a Washington Pool. In 1880 Camden had married and was then living with his wife in Hancock Co, KY and next door was John Toler, who was of similar age and possible brother or cousin of James and Camden's. I have not proven the below, but I "think" that this is your line even though it does not show your link to it via Sallie in the Generation #2. The James H dates are correct, the wife's name is correct, if he was born in Daviess Co that would match up with the statement that one of them was born in Yelvington which is in Daviess Co, etc. The son is the same age and name as that shown on the census also even though in this report it did not mention Sallie as a child, but then the researcher may not have found that yet (for instance they may only have looked at the 1880 census and not the 1900 one which she would have been on with her parents). Anyway, if this is the line then you are still in KY in 1812 timeframe on the TOLER family side of your ancestry. It would also show that Betty's surname was STEWART and her mother was a HEAD, and you would also be a descendant of a GILLAM. TOLER_7_0729 Generation No. 1 1. Barry, it is very common for lines we find (like above) to not be 100% accurate, so it is up to the researcher to find proof (vital statistics, census, etc) on their own, and only a guideline or "clues" in finding the info. Because of this if this is your family I would use as a starting point in proving this info (or for your sisters to prove this info). I am also trying to get in touch with the person who wrote this up to see if she has any info on your line (which I think is her line also). Right now I am waiting on FamilyTreemaker to answer me back who this individual is that submitted this information. Not much so far but will keep digging. Sometimes things fall into place very quickly and othertimes the are a royal "pain" to find info (such as was with my Denis and Andrew Brennan family -- took me 35 years of hunting to get out of KY to RI, CT and Mass and over to Tipperary, Ireland.)
