    3. This is the gist of a post that came through a county page...thought some might find it exciting! *** For those of you who do not have access to Louisville's Courier-Journal, today's issue has an article that is guaranteed to excite the heart of every genealogist that has ties to Kentucky! The article states that The Filson Club Historical Society, along with the University of Chicago, will create a web site that will contain several thousands of digitized images of books, records and other documents of historical significance. This project is being undertaken under funding of a $145,596 grant, and is expected to take up to 18 months to complete. And this is just the beginning! The project is titled, "The First American West: The Ohio River Valley, 1750-1820." No URL has been published at this time, but I suppose it would be accessed through their normal web address: www.filsonclub.org *** Lori

    1. Howard Co IN Vital Records - Brainstorming Session
    2. Tracey & Scott Morris
    3. As some of you may know - many of the older Howard County Indiana Vital Records are stored in a pole barn shared with the County Highway Department. For the most part, these records are stored in cardboard boxes and are exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold, as well as insects and other pests. Many of these records are more than a century old and in danger of deteriorating completely very soon. As they are in a remote location with no inventory and few indexes available - access is limited and searches are done at the discretion of the county clerk's staff, who often do not view these activities as a priority. The Howard County Genealogical Society is sponsoring a brainstorming session Monday, June 21st at 6:30 at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library Community Room (220 N Union St, Kokomo). Any interested parties are welcome to come and share ideas on how to publicize this problem and work towards possible solutions. Library staff, local newspaper reporters and professors from Indiana University at Kokomo have been invited. The results of this session are to be presented to the County Commissioners in a formal meeting sometime in July in hopes that official action will be taken. If you cannot attend, but have ideas you would like to share, send your comments to Howard County Genealogical Society, PO Box 2, Oakford IN 46965-0002 or to morris@netusa1.net Tracey Morris Howard Co IN Genealogical Society Secretary - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- Tracey & Scott Morris -- Kokomo IN -- morris@netusa1.net Rootsweb Sponsor -- http://www.rootsweb.com USGenWeb Project Member -- http://www.usgenweb.org

    1. A Few Words
    2. Betty Sellers
    3. Hello everyone! I just wanted to voice a little INDIANA pride this evening. Thursday after visiting Methodist Hospital and the clinic and lab - we settled in at my daughter's to await the results. I had an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. A young man studying for seminary who rooms at my daughter's volunteered to stay with my husband and my daughter and I went with a dear friend to see Billy Graham. It may seemed to be an odd time for me to go and be away from Bill but I think it was meant to be for me to be in indy at that time. I certainly was blessed by the experience. At 5:00 it was already announced that people had been standing in line since early morning and that the traffic was jammed in all directions. We were fortunate that Dede's friend's Dad knew the back roads and if you have traveled 35 miles on Indianapolis back streets that is an experience. We arrived about 6:35 and parked fairly near the center. Now let's face it a woman in her early sixties, with a heart condition, and slightly on the plump side isn't any "Rockie" when it comes to steps. There was four flights of steps into the center and I thought well I can make that holding on and puffing - and I did... As we got into the veranda... they announced the only seats were on the upper level and so here we go again --- up up up... and that was four more flights.... After the second flight - I thought he could have just preached my funeral and got it over with... "but I caught my breathe and made it"... We ended up the second seat from the top... "Wonderful view"... The choir all had on green shirts and was massive... there were four t.v. screens ...Dede's friend Peggy had her binocular's and I could get a good look at what I wanted to look at. Of course I am a big Gaither fan and I really enjoyed their three songs they sang... You can't be from Indiana and not enjoy them... looking out over an congregation of 50,000 people.... But most of all when George Beverly Shea sang before Billy Graham brought the message trully touched my heart.... How many years this man has been singing and his voice is still singing praise. Rev. Graham looked good and the only notice I had of his age was a stool behind him if he became tired. He opened his voice and God's love began to flow. He said is you remember anything of this message tonight remember -- "GOD LOVES YOU"...and as he said that he looked all over the congregation of 50,000 as if he was saying it to you personally... His message was in regard to Kosovo and Columbine High School and I feel that it was meant for me to hear him.. At the end of the service 3,000 individuals went forward for a committment or rededication. I was gone from Bill a total of five hours but I felt he was in good hands.. In the hospital clinic room while waiting for the doctor - I looked out over the Capital and the view as breathtaking from the 8th floor... As we were parking we came in around the Veterans Memorial Monument and for a Hoosier and a Genealogist and a lover of History it was quite impressive.. I looked up and studied it in detail and wished I had my camera. I want to make a mural for the Indiana InGenWeb for the Millenium.... Possibly of three different sites.... It doesn't seem possibly that Bill's transplant has been 10 months ago... and that we've been to Indy 28 times since last July... But we are home, refreshed and hoping for a good report come tomorrow... Betty aka Kyseeker of In and Ky

    3. Hi everyone, A post to me made me think of this, so am going to clarify my previous post. The Betty Sellers Award is just the name that was decided to be used for the YEARLY graphics. These graphics are just a 'braggin rights' type of graphic showing how many years the INgenWeb counties have been online. Every county qualifies to have these on their page, but it is not mandatory to have them. They can be downloaded from either the IN state page, or the Ripley page. Cheers! Lori

    3. As ASC, it is my pleasure to welcome Eliza Funk/Cheryl Mulikas to Indiana GenWeb, as the Co-CCs of DeKalb County! Also, I don't recall if Terry Engel has been welcomed, so here is a welcome for Terry! She is the CC for Jennings County. This has been a slight madhouse, with all the CCs leaving, trading, etc. So, the new CC for Carroll County, please step forward and let me know what is going on. I need to update the Image map so that you are included. Any other trades that I don't have yet? :) I believe Betty and Bill are due home today....I think things are as well as can be expected with Bill at this time. Lori INGenWeb ASC
