Was a Jacob SPEYER and family in Indiana in 1910? The were in New Jersy in 1900 and 1920, according to the census, but not in 1910. His sons graduated from Calver High School in Indiana and that would put them there in 1910. In which county is Calver, or is that just the name of a school? Thanks for any help! Fredreica

Thanks to all the list members who wrote and gave me tips. It jogged my mind to get out my Indiana Research Outline from the Family History Library. Well, I found a juicy tidbit in there about the census' which may be the answer to my dilemma. Quoting from the research outline-- "A few scattered fragments of 1853, 1856, 1857, 1877 and other county and state censuses are at the Indiana State Library." I am now thinking that maybe my cousin who found Samuel and Joseph Brazzell in Indiana (I can't find them anywhere!) maybe found them in these census records. I do know that she did a lot of research in Indiana in person. So perhaps my dilemma is solved--- but of course now is the problem to get to Indiana and check it out for myself. :) Has anyone ever looked at these fragments or are they indexed in a book? Karen

Does anyone know for sure if there is an 1855 or 1845 State Census? Karen
Karen; I think there is a 1855 State Census for Indiana. I'm not sure though if there was one for 1845. I have a dilemma that I can't seem to find an answer to, so am hoping someone out there might have a suggestion for me. I have been researching my Brazzle family on and off for a long time and about 25 years ago a 'cousin' sent me copies of her genealogy work in the form of a 5 page typewritten family tree. She was quite elderly and sick and we corresponded only a few times before I was unable to get any more answers. I assume she died. Now, my dilemma. In her research, she says that William Brazzle shows up in the 1830 census for Daviess Co and 1840 Green Co and the 1850 Green Co. His son Joshua is listed in all three census' also. She then says that "apparently 2 brothers joined them in 1850. The census lists Joseph Brazil and wife Hannah. with children Hannah and James. Also listed is Samuel Brazil and wife Nancy J. with children Morrison, Malinda, Rhoda, Delilah, Rose Ella and Nancy J." I have checked the census indexes and cannot find a Joseph or Samuel Brazzle--- under any spelling.... I have even read the entire Green and Daviess Co. census line by line to try to find them. What am I missing? She didn't make them up out of the air. She found them somewhere but for the life of me I can't find them. She was very thorough in her research and I have not found any discrepancies in her work so I must be overlooking something. Are there any off year census' for Indiana-- like an 1855 or 1845? Any suggestions would really be helpful, Karen

This autumn the Indiana Historical Society invites you to three days of activities that highlight and celebrate the nineteenth state's past. On Friday, 3 November, Society members are invited to attend the IHS's annual meeting and dinner. Members and the public are welcome to attend the 80th annual history conference on Saturday, 4 November, and the second annual book fair on Sunday, 5 November. IHS members who attend the annual meeting on 3 November will have the first opportunity to hear nationally known speaker Frederick Kempe, author of the book _Father/Land: A Personal Search for the New Germany_. Kempe has served as editor and associate publisher of the _Wall Street Journal Europe_ since January 1998. He will also present a session during Saturday's history conference. Dr. David Thelen, Indiana University professor of history, will present the keynote address for Saturday's history conference. Titled "The Presence of the Past: How Americans Understand and Use the Past," Thelen's talk is based upon interviews with 1,500 Americans about how they understand and use the past in their everyday lives. The Willard Heiss Memorial Lecture on genealogy will be presented by nationally recognized genealogist Christine Rose on Saturday. Rose, a certified genealogist, coauthored the best-selling _Complete Idiot's Guide to Genealogy_ and compiled the popular _Nicknames: Past and Present_. New to the history conference this year are "students of history" sessions that focus on exploration and documentation of family traditions and history through multigenerational participation. Other sessions Saturday will include talks on Hoosier labor leader Powers Hapgood, social reformer and literary lion Albion Fellows Bacon, politician and historian Claude Bowers, and letters from Indiana soldiers of the Korean War. Conference authors will be available to sign their books immediately after the last session on Saturday. Authors and their books featured at the conference include: Robert Barrows, Indiana University, Indianapolis, _Albion Fellows Bacon: Indiana's Municipal Housekeeper_ Robert Bussel, Penn State University, _From Harvard to the Ranks of Labor: Powers Hapgood and the American Working Class_ Peter J. Has anyone heard from Kris Bain of the Union County INGenWeb site? I have tried to reach her for weeks with no luck. Her e-mails bounce. Has she been in contact with the coordinators at all? Randy Klemme Franklin County

Hello INGenWeb, Long time, no hear....... until recently. Its been a while since I was the coordinator for Johnson, Shelby, Dearborn, and Ohio, so I must have gotten back on somebody's list. No offense, but I won't need to be on the active INGenWeb list,so whomever handles the details needs to take off ddistler@iquest.net.
