Laura; There was a family of Baxter's who lived in Anderson during the early 60's. I don't know if this could be your line or not, but thought I would offer the suggestion. Lynn ----Original Message Follows---- From: CT000001@aol.com To: INGEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: {not a subscriber} baxter family Date: Sat, 6 Jan 2001 20:05:10 -0800 Hi. I am searching for information on my ggrandmother, Nellie Marie Baxter b 1890 possibly somewhere in northern Indiana. I just found out that she was raised in Kokomo and lived there until she married my ggrandfather, Winfield Elliot Cone. After that, she moved to Saginaw, MI where my ggrandfather had his home. She eventually made her home in the Detroit area where she died in 1987. Unfortunately that's about all the information I have. Pls advise if you know anything about her family. I am looking for an Emily/Elizabeth Low born June 1845 in Indiana. The only other information I have on her is that she later married Timothy Winders and lived in IL around 1879 when Alice Winders was born. I know for sure they were in Hardin Co., IL when Alice married in April 1896. In 1900 she Census she is list in the home of her son-in-law and daughter. The only other information I have is from that census record and has her Mother is from Ohio (but I have no name) and her father ? LOW from France. Thanks for any help, Liesa
To The list; I have been getting the impression that some list members think that this mailing list is for advertising new programs and genealogical conferences. Please be aware that this mailing lsit was set up for exchanging genealogical information and ideas on how to find that elusive ancestor. If I continue to see advertisements in regard to conferences or new program files, I will have no other choice to modify the list, ad I don't think you would like me to do that. Your help in this matter would be very much appreciated. Sincerely, Lynn Listmaster for the INGEN-L mailing list. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Hi Margaret; It seems strange that non-members would have to pay $5.00 to attend the conference, while members can see it free. I would think ot would be more beneficial if it was free to all. I Want I want ancestors with names like Rudy Montagnard or Mechiznick Von Steuben or Spetznatz Giafortoni, not Mary Smith or William Johnson. I want ancestors who went to school, could read and write, purchased land, left detailed wills (naming a huge extended family as legatees), had their photographs taken once a year - subsequently putting said pictures in elaborate acid free albums with names, dates, and places. I want relatives who managed to bury their predecessors in established, still-extant (and indexed) cemeteries, with carved voluble and informative inscriptions on their headstones. I want family members who wrote memoirs, kept diaries, enlisted in the military, particularly officers who served in strategically important (and well documented) skirmishes. I want relatives who served as Congressional members, judges, councilmen, school teachers, county clerks, police officers, firefighters. I want relatives who had their children baptized in recognized houses of worship, "religiously" wrote in the family Bible, recording every little event and detailing the familial relationship of every visitor. I want immigrant progenitors to have arrived only in those years wherein passenger lists were indexed by the National Archives, to have applied for citizenship in those jurisdictions which have since established indices. I want relatives who were patriotic and clubby, joined every patrimonial society, kept journals, listed all their addresses, dated every piece of paper they touched and had paintings made of their houses. I want forebears who were wealthy enough to afford, and keep for generations, the tribal homestead and left all the aforementioned pictures, diaries and journals in the library. But most of all I want relatives I can FIND! ------------------------- Source: The Parkhurst Family Journal - Vol. 5, No. 1, Mar, 1999 - used by permission. Merry Christmas everyone! Do you know in which county Culver, IN is located? I know my Jacob SPEYER moved his family in the early 1900's from New Jersey to Indiana to be with "family." I don't know if it was his mother's, father's or wife's "family." All I have to go on is the last name of SPEYER (and, his mother-in-law's name which was possibly Goldburg). Jacob SPEYER was born in Iowa and fought during the Mexican Border War for the Illinois National Guard. He was on the NJ 1900 and 1920 census. Yes, that's exactly what it is. I spoke with my father-in-law this weekend about Calver and he said it was Culver and must be a typo. Thanks so much for checking!
