I am coordinating INGenWeb's participation at GenTech98. I planned on sending a message out shortily after the first of the year to line up who's available. INGenWeb is responsible for manning an Internet Laboratory Booth at the exposition that will be going on during the two days of the conference. At this booth we will have three computers with Internet connections and we will demonstrate to interested parties what is available on-line for genealogy research. From our earlier communication on this topic, the following people had volunteered to participate: Judy Murphy Tracey Morris Kathleen Hamman Patricia Bogel Gene Andert From recent communications, Dave Distler and Debbie Behler have noted their interest. If those noted above are still interested, please confirm in an email to me. If there are others interested, also please note that you will participate. I am currently lining up the computers, internet connection and signage, etc for the booth. Within the next week, I'd like to develop the schedule of participation. Thank you. I would be happy to attend and help out if a booth is planned. Would be nice if IN c.c.'s could plan an informal meeting for breakfast or dinner during the seminar. Dave Distler Dearborn, Johnson, Ohio and Shelby INGenWebs

All: I saw Lori's message and thought notifying of the existence of a new list was a good idea. Herewith is the new one for Owen, as well as overflow situations involving its border counties (clockwise) of Putnam, Morgan, Monroe, Greene, and Clay. Mailing address for POSTINGS is inowen-l@rootsweb.com. To SUBSCRIBE send the word "subscribe" (without the quotes) as the ONLY TEXT IN THE BODY of a message to inowen-l-request@rootsweb.com (for mail mode) or inowen-d-request@rootsweb.com (for digest mode). Be sure to leave the subscribing email SUBJECT ENTIRELY BLANK. Once you have received confirmation that you are on the list, send an email with your surnames (plus dates and township if known) to the list. Note that Clay County also has a relatively new list in operation. A Christmas Gift to You I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book. And every year at Christmas time, I go and take a look. That is when I realize that these names are a part, Not of the book they're written in, but of my very heart. For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime, And in that meeting they become the rhythm of the rhyme. And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim, I really feel that I am composed of each remembered name. For while you may not be aware of any special link, You have shared my life more than you think. For once you meet somebody, the years cannot erase The memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face. So never think my Christmas card is just a mere routine Of names upon a Christmas list, forgotten in between. For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you, It's because you're on the list of folks that I'm indebted to. For you are part of the total of all the folks I've met; And you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget. And whether I have known you for many years or few, In some way you have a part in shaping things I do. Every year when Christmas comes I realize anew, That the biggest gift that life can give is meeting folks like you. -- Author Unknown ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hope everyone's Christmas was a wonderful one. May everyone's New Year be filled with peace, joy, health, happiness, prosperity and the finding of some "ellusive" relative's information, And may the new year bring laughter every day, and to all a good night... Fred, thanks! > I just found out about this site that gives out FREE space for a web > site, they are supposed to allow 5 meg but I couldn't find out for sure. They They say they allow UP TO 5Meg...... Joining was easy, and the FTP is as easy to use. So the question is: how long will this site remain viable? I have joined sites that after a few months or so suddenly disappear. I will keep a daily backup of files that are on this site. Lori
Hi All, I just found out about this site that gives out FREE space for a web site, they are supposed to allow 5 meg but I couldn't find out for sure. They do have a web page builder if you would rather use that method but you can FTP to your site as well. You do have to join and they ask for your e-mail and address as well as your name. Here is the site to join up. http://xoom.com/xoom/homepage Later.........Fred

Hi all, Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and got everything they wanted. Here is a couple of news tid-bits that you may want to see. ************************************************************* First from Megan Zurawicz, (National Coordinator USGenWeb); Because of USGenWeb's commitment to free access and free net use, we'd like to avoid even the appearance of commercial sites. Since Geocities has taken to inserting commericials into site access, I'd like to heavily encourage any county coordinators whose USGW sites are on Geocities to move them....there's Rootsweb, USRoots, Angelfire and probably other options out there that are much more polite. An additional issue is that the more sophisticated Geocities makes access to their server, the more complaints we get from users about Geocities sites....because the flashier it gets, the more users who can't, for whatever reason, access it. That said, all I have left to say is: Go out there and have a pleasant holiday season, celebrate in moderation, and let's have a great 1998. megan ******************************************************* Next from Dr. Brian Leverich ( owner of rootsweb); To request state/county space for USGW at Rootsweb, the new procedure of choice is to send the request to Barry Zurawicz, digeridu@sprintmail.com ...he's the one creating USGW accounts these days. Please make it cc'd to Brian, so he can keep track of what's going on... Thanks. ******************************************** So,if you need a place to house your InGenWeb site just write to Barry at the address above,be sure to make it clear what State and County you want the account for and remember,it is FREE. I guess that is about all I have for now,Hope we all have a Happy New Year. Later..........Fred
Greetings, I am looking forward to being the coordinator for the Marion County, IN. GenWeb page. I hope to have the pages ready and on by January 12th, 1998. Merry Christmas Happy New Year !! Barbara Cline Hutchinson
