    3. Hi gang, Jerry has a new 1997 2nd year award, this is meant to honor Betty Sellers work in keeping this project together for the last two years. You can grab a copy of the image and display it on your web site.Check it out at; http://vax1.vigo.lib.in.us/~jmounts/county.htm You will find it near the bottom of the page. On another note; We need to be carefull when using an image as a link, some people either don't have their images on or are using a browser that won't load images.Be sure to use the ALT code on your images especially if the image is a hyper link. 2. Sam Cline
    3. Fred, Do I remember correctly that the first posting concerning the Query Forum also included information concerning it's total compatibility with CCHelper? [I haven't had an opportunity to set up CCHelper yet, so I wasn't paying close attention. Also, I apparently let the "delete" key take care of the original message instead of putting it in a folder for future reference.] Sam Cline

    3. Has anyone heard from Cheryl Trowbridge-Taylor,her pages haven't been up-dated for some time now and she isn't repling to my messages.I understand that a while back she had computer trouble but she should have had time to correct the problem by now. On another noet; I got a message asking about the Indiana census, they insist the Indiana State Cenus was taken every 4 years from 1820 through 1853, and every six thereafter at least 1877. If so this is the first I have heard of it.Anyone know? Later.......Fred

    1. Query Forum
    2. Sam Cline
    3. To Fred Finkbiner, et al. I must admit at the outset I had a lot of reservations about the new "Query Forum" pages. My concerns were they would be difficult for the public to use; difficult for a CC to maintain; just difficult in general. I AM GLAD TO REPORT AT THIS WRITING THAT I HAVE DECIDED THAT ALL MY MISGIVINGS AND WORRIES WERE UNFOUNDED! Hooray for Query Forum! The "Query Forum" is providing a means by which a great deal of data can be made available by the sender. For example; I believe a whole bunch of researchers of a family right here in Morgan County will be going completely bonkers when they discover a link in one of the messages taking them to a URL that has an unbelieveable list of links for just one Morgan County Family as well as other locations for that family. And you know the best part -- I didn't have to do a durn thing except--ENJOY & rationalize what a boon the Query Forum is and will continue to be as the data increases. Those Indiana County Coordinators who haven't signed up are missing out on a real good thing -- for them and the world's researchers. I strongly suggest that all the Indiana County Coordinators try the Query Forum. The Query Forum is almost as good as, although not quite, Grandma's yeast rolls; yummy! Also, for your information, I have caused several people to use the Query Forum already. No complaints; thought it was great! The electronic age is here -- today -- use it for all it's worth! [I'm one of those people who didn't want to give up using my Grandparent's Alladin Lamp, sure glad I did!] Sam Cline

    3. Hi All, Here are a couple of things that you might be interested in; First, The Indiana Pioneer Cemeteries Restoration Project is alive and well but they need all the help they can get.I highly recommend joining the project, the project State Coordinator is our very own Scott Satterthwaite, there is a mail list for the project and you can subscribe to it by sending an e-mail to ; INPCRP-L-request@rootsweb.com. Leave the subject line blank and put ONLY the word "subscribe" (without the quotes) in the body of the mail. Or you can visit the project site at; http://www.citznet.com/~ssattert/inpcrp/ It is a good cause, there are a lot of old Cemeteries that are going to be lost forever if something isn't done now. Next, Good luck to Gene and his crew at the GenTech98 tommorrow, it will run on Fri. and Sat. so if you can get up there please stop by the Internet Lab Booth and say hello. And last but not least, We have several Counties running the new query system,if you want to include your County in the system just let me know and I will get you set up. Later.........Fred

    2. Richard Finkbiner
    3. Frank Brooks has taken over the Jackson County site from Norm and has his site at; http://www.rootsweb.com/~injackso/ Be sure to update your link to Jackson and look for a new URL for Jennings soon. Here is a message from Dr. Brian Leverich, the owner of rootsweb. *********************************************************** Sorry about the tardiest report to date -- we've been so busy that we just didn't have the time to compile our statistics for October and November. The executive summary is that we had about a 55% growth over in just the three months from September to December: o 20,835,802 Web files (14,687,507 in Sept) from 2,240 Websites (1,891 in Sept). - 5,903,137 were HTML pages (not images or cgi-bin) (4,462,656 in Sept). - 2,911,509 were cgi-bin database searches and such. (1,777,881 in Sept). - 11,849,905 were GIFs (10,902,627) or JPEGs (947,279) (8,317,545 in Sept were GIFs (7,560,589) or JPEGs (756,956). o 472,838 FTP file downloads from the USGenWeb Archives and the ROOTS-L Library (427,565 in Sept). o We've lost count of how much mail we're shipping to the 2,300+ (1,900 in Sept) mailing lists we host, but last month it was in the neighborhood of 90,000,000 million pieces. o 60,000 alt.g and s.g.* Usenet News articles to hosts on three continents (same as Sept). o Approximately 321,408,000,000 bytes in total (207,360,000,000 in Sept). Besides adding hundreds of new Websites and mailing lists, in the last three months RootsWeb has added search engines for the USGenWeb Archives and all 4 *gigabytes* of messages in the archives of our surname and regional mailing lists. Also in the last three months, RootsWeb has added several new servers and a third and fourth T1 connection to the Internet. (A T1 is about 50 times faster than a standard modem.) These additions have significantly increased our costs of operation, but they were essential if we were to continue to properly support the Internet genealogical community. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank RootsWeb's Members, Sponsors, and Donors. *** RootsWeb could not exist without you *** Because you've chosen to support RootsWeb, we already have more than 7 gigabytes (that's the eqivalent of 3.5 *million* pages) of genealogical data online. There is a tremendous amount of further work to be done but, if community support of RootsWeb continues to grow, ultimately we will be able to provide resources to online genealogists that will rival what they could find in the very best research libraries. We've done a lot already, but think of what it will be like when any genealogist can access a first-rate library from the comfort of their own home. Thanks again for your support! -B -- Dr. Brian Leverich Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ P.O. I would suggest that as the SC, you create a Condolances page, that contains a few lines of text from each CC that wants to send Condolances to her, put it online, then send her the URL. What do you think? Lori

    3. I'm sending out one more call for INGenWeb county coordinators who might wish to particpate in INGenWeb's Internet Lab booth at GenTech98. GenTech98 will be held in Fort Wayne, IN on January 23 and 24. It is a combination of exhibits and seminars. More information can be found at: http://www.gentech.org/gt98chp.htm Our particpation will consist of manning an Internet Lab booth that will demonstrate (via a live internet connection) what is available on the NET for genealogy research and discuss what INGenWeb, USGenWeb and the projects are all about. I've had a number of people note that they will be participating and I wanted to check one more time and see if others are interested. I am now trying to put the booth schedule together and identify to the GenTech98 management who from INGenWeb will be participating. 3. Hi All, I have a couple of things that you will want to know; First,I have been getting complaints about this site; http://members.aol.com/genwebindx/ It is a site run by John Ridgon and it is formatted to resemble a USGenWeb site, the problem is that he charges for his information. Many of us have a link to this site,I STRONGLY suggest that we all remove the link before we get the reputation of asking for money for our queries and/or look-ups. Next, We have a new volunteer for Vigo County, her name is Pam Yates, she is not new to internet genealogy in fact you may have links to hsome of her web pages. You will find the new Vigo County web site at; http://www.rootsweb.com/~invigo/vigo.htm Thanks to Chris for doing a great job with Vigo untill a new volunter was found. (she didn't even know she was lost) Next, Bobby Edwards needs to give up Rush County so if you think you would like to take it on let me or Bobby know. I *think* that is all for now except that now that Christmas is over we seem to be getting busier, maybe it is all the new computers online now. Later..............Fred
