Well, it has been quite some time since I have sent any updates( what can I say, it's been a busy summer) Lori Hoffman of Ripley County has agreed to be the new Assistant State Coordinator, just haven't took the time to put her name and address on the State page. Lynda Smith is giving up her Martin County site but she has a volunteer willing to take the site, his name is Mike Tedrow ,let's all welcome Mike to the InGenWeb project.Lynda also has been doing the roll call for some time now,I will take it over unless someone wants to take it. Thanks to Lynda for all she has done for this project, we will miss her. Gene Andert's Kosciusko County site has a new URL so if you have a link to it you will want to change it to the new location at; http://user.ctlnet.com/gan155/kosco.htm I have been busy putting several new Indiana census files online in the archives so you might want to check to see if there is one for your County, you will find the Indiana archive TOC page at; http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/in/infiles.htm I have a few more files from Indiana CCs to put in the archives and should be caught up so if you have anything you would like to donate let me know. I think that is about all for now except let's think about holding an election for a new Indiana State Coordinator, we need to have a vote in the next few months. If you would like the job let me know or post a note on this list. Hi everyone... I want to nip a potential panic in the bud so that no one gets scared. There is a HOAX going around, called buddylst.zip...this is a screen saver of the bud wiser frogs...this is supposed to be a virus. It is a HOAX...so if you get a post that gets you in a panic, go to this site and read what the virus killers site has to say about hoaxes, ok? http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html I just hate getting panic messages over a hoax...now, if these were about the Great Flood, then I could see getting in a few swimming lessoms :) Lori

Dreamweaver from Macromedia http://www.macromedia.com is a really top notch editor. HTMLed32 http://www.ist.ca is a nice little shareware program to use. It is not a WYSIWYG. Whichever program you decide to use, be sure it/you can test the file with both Netscape and MS Internet Explorer. A misplaced markup can keep a table from displaying anything in MSIE while it appears normal in Netscape and vice versa. -Chris At 12:54 PM 8/5/98 -0500, Adina Dyer wrote: >I am using Netscape Composer right now to create my pages and have been >thinking of trying something different, something with more versatility. >One feature I am looking for is being able to convert a spreadsheet to >html and put it in a table format without too much work on my part! : ) >Is that even possible? Hi everyone! I would like your input on this, if you have the time. I've only been at this web page thing for less than a year and would like some advice. I am using Netscape Composer right now to create my pages and have been thinking of trying something different, something with more versatility. One feature I am looking for is being able to convert a spreadsheet to html and put it in a table format without too much work on my part! : ) Is that even possible? Does anyone have any suggestions before I go spend more money? Thanks for your help. Adina Watkins Dyer, coordinator Tippecanoe Co. Adina, I am aware of at least two options relative to your second question. Relative to your first, there are a slew of much more versatile web page editors available. I don't know what platform you are using (Mac or Windows), but Hot Dog Pro for the windows system is a very nice package. It can be downloaded and bought off the Web. Relative to the conversion of spreadsheets. This is something I do often. I am working in Microsoft Excel. You can copy an Excel spreadsheet or open an Excel file in Adobe Pagemill and Pagemill will automatically convert the sheet to an html table. In the new versions of Microsoft Excel (95 and newer) you can actually save the spreadsheet as an HTML file with an extension offered by Microsoft. Microsoft typically adds more html code then necessary in the process, so I will usually go in and do a search and destroy, er, replace to remove unneeded code. Hope this helps. I was at the LDS library yesterday and came across the microfiche #6044079 which was the City Guide and Directory of Madison, IN and at the last of fiche 2 and first of 3 there was a listing of the postoffices that were in existence in the various states and territories in 1859. Although I use the GNIS and also the 1854 Atlas from Ancestry.com I found some listed there that WERE NOT on either of those two listings. Just thought you might want to know so you can check out the counties youd do and their respective town names. The way it is organized is this -- NOT state alphabetical -- it is alphabetical within the state by the counties and then by the townships then the town names. Enjoy, Judy M.

This subject brings to mind the fact that many persons do not even know that in their public libraries and courthouses that they have family Bibles that people have donated -- sometimes they are hard to locate exactly where they have them kept and so often people will tell you that they don't have any -- but if you are persistent you can usually locate them -- usually in cabinets, safes, file drawers, boxes, attics, and even the basement. Search around and it may amaze you what Bibles there are in your county. As for the Jones -- I know that many of the Jones' were over by Steubenville and along the east side of Ohio on the Ohio River and they were also Welsh -- so it is possible that some of the ones in your Bible stopped along that area in their migration to Indiana. As for me I am searching for a Jones family Bible that was mentioned in a rev war pension application -- said that Thomas Bolin knew his birthdate 1776 because he saw it in his "Uncle John Jones' Bible" -- we have been trying to find this Bible or even his Uncle John Jones for some time -- we only know that he was born in Caswell/Orange Co, NC and migrated to Perry Co, IN and we believe he descended from the VA Bolin/Bolen/Bolling family and so this John Jones could have lived in VA, NC, IN -- or for that matter anywhere in USA. Sure wish your find was the Bible we have all been hunting for for over 35 years.<just dreamin' and wishin' and hopin'> Judy M. >My brother has an old file cabinet of my grandfathers down in his basement. My goal was to find the descendants of Thomas McCullough and return the bible to the McCullough family. I am happy to report that I was able to locate the youngest daughter of Thomas McCullough, Wilma (McCullough ) Rust, who lives in Marion, and gave the bible to her today. The story of this bible is amazing, but I'll try to be brief: This 100 year old bible was found in a trash dumpster 10 years ago! The person who found it, pulled it from the trash and kept it in their home, not knowing what to do with it. Just this past week, they decided to give it to a friend of mine who knew of my interest in history, especially genealogy. I received several responses from my posting, but no direct descendants, however, by using People Search, I located Wilma Rust, Thomas McCullough's youngest daughter. When I contacted Wilma and told her about the bible, she was thrilled and amazed. She told me that she had given the bible to her nephew several years ago and thought that he was old enough to understand its importance. But when cleaning house one day, he threw the bible away. She thought that this priceless family bible was lost forever. What a thrill it was to hand the bible back to her and to see her shed tears of joy as she spoke of the memories of her parents and family. Wilma said that getting such an important part of her family's history returned to her after 10 years, was by the providence of God. I would have to agree. My brother has an old file cabinet of my grandfathers down in his basement. He told me the Paulus family bible was in it and I went straight to his house to look at it....it wasnt the Paulus family it was Jones. I'm still trying to figure out why we have that bible, only have a couple Jones's in the family so I need to check deeper and get all the names from it...if it should happen to not be from my family I intend to try to locate the descendents too. Most of it is in Welsh (Jones was common there) and there are Welsh descendents in my family so hopefully I'll figure it out someday. Dont bother replying with your Jones family names...I dont have any of the names until I find time to go write them down. But when I do I'll post them here and hopefully someone will recognize one. P.S. The bible was in the basement at Eugene and Lela Huish's (both deceased) home in East Chicago Indiana until 1987 when my brother took the cabinet out, he just told me about it a month ago. If it was up to him (my brother) he'd throw it in the trash and someones priceless late 1800's bible would be gone. Hopefully I can keep that from happening! Check this out ,from the Terre Haute Tribune-Star newspaper; Julian Livingston is the Monroe County CC ======================================================== James Campbell has traveled all over the world......... "Hes been one of the best links to history in the Washington Township area. Theres probably not a better link to the past than him. Julian Livingston agrees. The 66-year-old Bloomington resident was tracing the genealogy of his mother, who was from a different branch of Campbells. Livington is also writing a book titled The Campbell-Waldorff Connection and he wanted to connect the history of the Bowling Green area to his ancestors. I just contacted him, Livingston said. Generally genealogists turn over every stone they can find, and in turning over that stone, I came across a gold mine. Campbell had some glass negatives from the turn of the century. When Livingston looked at them closely, he couldnt believe what he saw. They were pictures of some members of my family, Livingston said. If he hadnt preserved these glass negatives, they just would have been dumped somewhere and that would have been the end of them. But Campbell refuses to let anything die away.
