OK, so now we are into the elections for USGenWeb. What do we know about these candidates though. We have three candidates for National Coordinator: Beth E. Wills, Tim Stowell and Kevin Fraley. Beth and Tim both have web pages up talking about their candidacy, but Kevin does not. Beth supports a rewrite of the By-Laws. Unsure about where Tim stands other than wanting to be a calming influence. Know nothing about Kevin. Do any of you Indiana coordinators know these people. What else can be said about them? Same is true for the CC rep for North East/North Central. Candidates are: David Yound [note his name is spelled wrong, it is supposed to be David C. Young], Ed Book and Bonnie McVicar-Briggs. Only Bonnie has a web page up talking about the election. Nothing on either Ed Book or David Young. I found David Young as the State Coordinator for Maine. Could not find anything on Ed Book so don't no where he's from. Again, what can be said about these candidates? Please share this with your County Coordinators. The 1999 Special USGenWeb Elections will start today. I would like to give a special thank you to Tim Pierce, Rootsweb's Senior Systems Administrator, who took over at the last minute and who has worked very hard so that we could have this election. It is indeed a pleasure to work with him! I would also like to thank Brian Leverich for the use of Rootsweb's resources for the election. The 1999 Special USGenWeb Elections start today, January 17, 1999, and will end on January 30, 1999. Results will be announced on Februay 1, 1999. All eligible USGenWeb Volunteers will receive a ballot for National Coordinator. All County Coordinators in the North East/ North Central; North West/Plains; South West/South Central and South East/Mid Altantic Regions will receive a ballot for County Coordinator Representative for their region. State Coordinators in the North West/Plains Region will receive a ballot for the State Coordinator Representative in that region. We are also running an election for Georgia State Coordinator, and all Georgia County Coordinators will receive a special ballot for that election. This election will be held using UseVote Software. When your ballot is received, UseVote will send you an acknowledgement. If you don't receive an acknowledgement within 24 hours, please vote again. You may change your mind and vote again. The software will automatically delete your previous vote. When the election ends, the software will count the ballots. If you don't receive a ballot, please write to: <vote-owner@yahoo.com> Give your name and the state and county(ies) that you are responsible for, and the email address that you use on your county page(s), also the email address that your State Coordinator has for you. Hello Evryone... Rootsweb opened up the GenConnect Surname board to their sponsors and I have taken the Allen and Faughn Surname boards and hoping to take the Mitchell. I have created an Allen Home Page - its rather bare right now but I am adding information that I have in my book "Til We Meet Again" - and it is linked two six genconnect boards - Biographies, Wills, Deeds, Obituaries, Bibles and Queries. These are national GenConnect boards. Before I could get my page up I had 6 queries from outside of Ky. I'd like to tell you a little something about the picture on the home page - It is Melissa White Allen the 3rd wife of Felix Allen with her only child Felix. of Mississippi. Felix died in 1867 after serving in the Confederacy. He was a poet and many of his poems are in the archives in Mississippi. I'm hoping someday to be able to share some of these on the internet with permission. The GenConnect boards will be down til late Sunday evening as they are installing new equipment but I'd like to invite you to view the page at: http://www.usroots.com/~kyseeker/trigg/allen/allen.html Please - if you have any information - please list it . This will be in a national database and I would really like to see it do good... This was a personal decision on his part. I have discussed this with Brian Leverich, and he assured me that Rootsweb will support our election. Tim Pierce, the Rootsweb's Senior System Administrator, will be in charge of the software. I think that almost all of us have worked with Tim in the past, and know of his dedication and ability to do great work. Tim will need a couple of days to familiarize himself with the software. Since all of the voting lists and ballots have already been prepared by the Election committee, as soon as he is ready, the voting will begin! I will keep you informed of any new developments. Does anyone out there know where I can find information on Chief Ben Davis? We believe he was a chief of a Delaware tribe here in Indiana back in the early 1800s. Anyone have any bio information on him? Thanks!! Sue Otte

Great! Our mailing list is ready to roll. !!! A mailing list for Indiana Genealogy discussion ("no politics") ("no national subjects") just plain ole down home Indiana Hoosier Genealogy. Everyone is welcome - researchers, visitors, coordinators, volunteers. Why not subscribe today and help us spread the news. Lori and I will be moderating the list and enjoy being with everyone! This does not replace Indytalk - as it is a list for Coordinator's wanting to talk amongst themselve's. Let's give everyone a great big Hoosier welcome! Anyone can subscribe to our list in mail mode by sending a message to INDIANA-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If they prefer digest mode, they should send the command instead to INDIANA-D-request@rootsweb.com. To unsubscribe, they should send the command "unsubscribe" to INDIANA-L-request@rootsweb.com (if in mail mode) or INDIANA-D-request@rootsweb.com (if in digest mode.) To switch from one mode to the other, they should unsubscribe from one and then subscribe to the other. There is no "no mail" mode -- if they want messages to stop, they should simply unsubscribe. To post to both INDIANA-L and INDIANA-D, messages should be sent to INDIANA-L@rootsweb.com. Messages sent there will appear both places. I have unsubbed today from the 'new' USGENWEB-DISCUSS-L list and also from USGENWEB-ALL list. I will be passing only information sent to me from the USGenWeb-STATE list to you if it is an announcement and requested to be sent to you. I have a term for this 'CTW'... (circle the wagons) I cannot tolerate name calling and harsh ridicule of others. I suggest that Indiana open up a mailing list - for ALL Indiana researchers and coordinator's as a discussion list and I am willing to set it up. Indiana is very proud to announce that the Kosciusko Co site coordinated by Gene Andert has received recognition.... Congratulations Gene! I just learned that the Kosciusko County USGenWeb site was written up by Cyndi Howells in her Linage Links column in Heritage Quest magazine Nov/Dec issue. She describes seven sites as "examples of terrific web sites that are currently available" and the second one mentioned is the Kosciusko County USGenWeb Project. "A wonderful example of volunteer efforts at work online...". Cyndi Howells is the author of "Netting Your Ancestors" and the owner of CyndisList online. This was reported by one of the subscribers to the INKosciu-l@rootsweb.com mailing list. I have not yet seen the article myself.

I've been a beta tester for this search engine for close to 3 months now and after reading the emails from my users and watching the site search engine in action, I can only say run, don't walk, and add this wonderful search engine on your site. It's truly a wonderful addition to any site. I only wish that it was available a year ago. The index for your site is updated twice a day, so your latest additions come online right away. Randy Winch, the programmer working on the GenConnect project and a RW administrator, has done a wonderful job on this piece of code. Lost in cyberspace....no copy of request for roll call came over although I think I responded to someone's answer. Just in case I didn't, Scott Co. is here! New GenConnect Boards for Obits, Deeds and Wills are activated and will be linked this week. The 1850 census is up but internal links are messed up so have to search by page for now. My guru will hopefully fix that this week....I've tried! Massachusetts is buried in ice and I'm not moving out of the house until something thaws! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Pat Mount
