Graham <graham13431@juno.com> To: Sam Cline <scline@hoosierweb.org> Date: Sunday, February 07, 1999 9:11 PM Subject: 1870 census update Hi Sam, The IGS web page has really helped find volunteers for this project. I've received many inquiries and some willing volunteers. It is time to update the list of counties which are waiting for a volunteer to extract information for this index. 29 counties need a volunteer; Carroll, Clark, Crawford, Delaware, Floyd, Jennings, Laporte, Lawrence, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Orange, Owen, Parke, Pike, Porter, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, St. Joseph, Scott, Shelby, Sullivan, Switzerland, Tippecanoe, Union, Vigo, Washington and Wayne. If anyone is interested in auditing and checking a county that has been extracted, please contact me. There are 17 counties awaiting this phase of the project. They are Bartholomew, Benton, Clinton, Dearborn, Decatur, Dekalb, Franklin, Grant, Hamilton, Harrison, Kosciusko, Perry, Ripley, Steuben, Wells, White, and Whitley. For extracting information in phase one and auditing & checking names in phase two, you must have access to a microfilm reader. For those volunteers who can do data entry the following six counties are ready; Fayette, Fountain, Jackson, Montgomery, Wabash, and Warren. We supply the software and instructions. Please contact me directly at my E-mail address. Marge

If you are responding to a message stating that local phone companies have asked the FCC for permission to impose per-minute charges for Internet access, please be aware that this information is out of date. The FCC decided in May 1997 NOT to allow imposition of Interstate access charges on Internet service providers. There is no comment period currently open in this proceeding. PHONE COMPANIES FILE TO CHARGE PER MINUTE FOR INTERNET SERVICE. ---------------------------------------------- Your local telephone company has filed a proposal with the FCC to impose per minute charges for your internet service. (This cost will of course be transferred to the customers/you.) They contend that your usage has or will hinder the operation of the telephone network. Internet usage will diminish if users were required to pay additional per minute charges. The FCC has created an email box for your comments, responses must be received by February 13, 1999. Send your comments to [ isp@fcc.gov ]and tell them what you think. Every phone company is in on this one, and they are trying to sneak it in just under the wire for litigation. Let everyone you know hear this one. Get the e-mail address to everyone you can think of: isp@fcc.gov Please forward this email to all your friends on the internet so all our voices may be heard!

[NOTE: This message is going to both the Indiana and Michigan USGenWeb mailing lists.] Here's some more info on the Michiana Genealogy Fair being held in South Bend March 20th: http://www.rootsweb.com/~insbags "The hours for the public are 9:30 am to 4 p.m. We ask that no one close before 4 p.m. so that all can enjoy the day. Set up can be as early as 6 am if you need the time." "Skirted tables (72" x 30") may be arranged for $5 per table. We will need to know how many tables and chairs you would need. Please bring any literature you desire and if your Society has items to sell, bring them along." I'll spring for the table if 2 or 3 other people can commit to attending - I will already be there as a rep of the Howard County IN Genealogical Society and therefore don't know if I could watch both tables. I think this would be a great way for those of us in the area to meet as well as to publicize the Project. Does anyone have a flyer for MIGenWeb or INGenWeb (or is willing to design one?) I've got a Rootsweb flyer and I think there's a USGenWeb flyer available at the main site. [NOTE: This is being sent to both the Indiana and Michigan USGenWeb CC lists.....] Has anyone thought about planning a "meeting/get-together" at the Michiana Area Genealogy Fair on March 20th? It will be held in South Bend IN (Ramada Inn, off I-80 and State Road 33) cost $5.00. I can write to the coordinators of the Fair to see if they could arrange a meeting place for us - I plan to attend as a representative for the Howard County IN Genealogical Society - and would be happy to be a "contact" for anyone who wants to stop by... It occurred to me that some of you may not know what is happening in Betty's life. Her husband Bill, was a heart recipient last fall. He is showing signs of rejection, and has been going downhill and that's why they are back in Indianapolis. Let's hope it is just a bug that can be taken care of! Lori IN GenWeb ASC
Hi ya'll, Betty asked me to forward this to you all, but forwarding puts a lot of garbage in posts and I wanted each of you to see and read this, soit is copied/pasted below. Let's try to bring her spirits up somehow.....e-cards? Prayers for sure. Lori ********* Betty's Post ******************* LORI please forward this to Indytalk Goodmorning everyone from Indy... Yes we have been back in Indy since Wednesday and Bill is back in the hospital. Many tests are being run to see why he is so sick - not eating - losing weight- shakes and quivers- hurting all over etc etc. Looks like we will be here for awhile. I contacted Lori Tuesday evening before we left and she is a goodie... I only have one address up here that works and I don't have time to straighten it out... it is kyseeker@netscape.com - but send all your problems to Lori <smile> I getting to the numb stage - and just press on - so please remember us in your prayers.. I ask for God's will to be done and for my family to have strength and faith... I felt Like I needed to post you all...
Collin, > I guess I'm lucky, I haven't had any...My sites are al rootsweb.. Sure hope it stays that way.. It isn't the location of the sites. It is the server that is hosting the mail list groups...like this one. Rootsweb is hosting thousands and mail lists....and someone grabbed the email addresses list and used it to send that SPAM to all the subscribers in those lists. Lori
I didn't get any of this particular spam. It is against the rules at xoom.com to have pornography or links to it on xoom.com webspace. They apparently got complaints and the site is no longer online there. Deb At 09:46 PM 2/3/1999 -0500, you wrote: >John, > >> What are you receiving that I don't? Kathy, > Yes I have recieved those on the INLAKE, INLAKE-D-REQUEST and INLAKE-L- > request.....and so so so many more spam emails that I'm close to closing my > list if it keeps up. By closing I mean deleting... Don't do that ......Do this: Get Free agent and use that for your email. Set filters to store or delete any email that starts {not a subscriber}. Then you will know it is junk mail and can just empty the trash ever so often. I would think most all the email programs will alow filters to be set. Lori
