I did not get a chance to respond, but I agree with the conclusions reached as stated below. Guidelines and Procedures are important to share with the general public - it gives us credibility that we have set some sort of policies to help us provide genealogical data and sources for our individual county sites. Passwords are for the private use of the account holder who manages their own websites, whether it is on RootsWeb, Evansville Online, AOL, GeoCities or whatever. If I wanted to give my password to someone- in the event that I would not be able to make changes tto my site temporarily or I was worried I would forget it - I would choose the state coordinator or someone who helps me with my site. Before I had adopted any counties, I wanted to read everything that was available regarding the whole system so that I was sure that I could handle it and would know what I was doing before I signed up... > Question#2 > What would the coordinator's think about sharing their password to their > Rootsweb accounts with me for safe keeping? I think that our passwords should be "somewhere" else besides with us, whether that is with you or with Rootsweb, I guess I don't care... Amy Davis CC for Boone County INGenWeb

While I feel this IS important information to have available - I am not sure it should be linked from the main page. Maybe there could be a set of "CC-oriented" pages at the same site as INGenWeb - just not linked to to the "visitor-oriented" pages? >Question#2 > What would the coordinator's think about sharing their password to their >Rootsweb accounts with me for safe keeping? Um - I believe the Rootsweb passwords all follow a pretty simple pattern - at least my counties do/did... or was I just lucky? I am a bit skittish about this tho - no offence, please, Betty! I don't want to infringe on >anyone's privacy. This was a suggestion from Lori.. I've lost a password to a World Gen. site on rootsweb I was keeping. It only took a couple of days for Dr. B. to set a new password. As a state coordinator you shouldn't have much problem working with Dr. B. to correct a mishap. I don't see much need to share passwords. -Chris
I have two questions I'd like to ask everyone and see what you think.... Some of you may not have know but there has always been a link from the state page of Guidelines and Sample Home Page and Helps... Last night I removed these old pages and placed the new adapted Guidelines and Requirements there as a link without sample pages. Question#1 It has been brought to my attention that the coordinator's might think this is private information and doesn't need to be linked from the State Page. What do you think... Question#2 What would the coordinator's think about sharing their password to their Rootsweb accounts with me for safe keeping? I don't want to infringe on anyone's privacy. This was a suggestion from Lori.. Sorry to sock you with to questions at once... but here 'they are'! Betty aka Kyseeker of In and Ky

I have combined several different search forms available at Rootsweb to provide "one-stop shopping" for Howard County. I had previously registered with the Rootsweb search form to index all my pages at Rootsweb - see the following site for more info. http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/wizards/seeker.html I also use GenConnect for queries, bios & obits and registered my "old" queries with Surname Helper. There are some documents at the Archives site for Howard county, and last but not least, I have a mailing list. So to make searches through all those sources easier - I created the following site (basically by copying existing forms) http://www.rootsweb.com/~inhoward/searchfrm.html Try it out with "lindley" - at least 1 item should come up for that surname for every category. Feel free to "borrow" any of the code & create your own page! Bart Johnson - county coordiantor for Daviess county who has done a marvelous job feels it is necessary to put Davies county up for adoption. He will maintain the site until someone is found that really has an interest in Daviess . The site is on Rootsweb and will make it easy for transfer. If you are interested in this site, please let me know. Amy has placed the site on the Adoptable county list. Betty aka Kyseeker of In and Ky
Terry Engel is placing Greene County up for adoption. She will be taking Jennings County from Collin and Collin will be the new coordinator for Carroll County... whew! They worked this out - amongst themselve's and they are seem happy!.... Betty aka Kyseeker of In and Ky
