My ancestors the Wendels (who m. Klemmes and Heebs) came here during the 1840's. They came because they didn't want their sons to have to serve in the German armies that were constantly making war and drafting the young men. The Wendels came from Gilsa, Germany and were farmers. They also had a harness shop in Ohio across the state line from Franklin Co. , In. for a few years before moving onto a farm in Franklin Co. Judy
