Dear Mari, I too have ancestors who migrated from South Carolina to Franklin County, Indiana at that time. This occurred in the 1800 - 1825 time period as the result of a prediction of one of the Quaker leaders. In the general area of Union, Newberry, Laurens, Greenwood and Abbeville counties a large number of Quakers had settled in the second half seventeenth century. In approximately 1800, their minister, a Zachary Dick, started predicting that this area would be the scene of a great war in the lifetime of those children then living. This they took very seriously and virtually all of them migrated to west-central Ohio in 1801-1822. They also wanted to rear their children free from the influence of slavery. Others went to Pennsylvania, Indiana and some to Tennessee. (ref. "Quaker Families of South Carolina and Georgia", William F. Medlin, 1982, Ben Franklin Press) My gg grandmother's family, the PATTYs moved into western Ohio (Miami, Butler and Darke Counties) and Indiana (Franklin County) as part of this migration. Not all were Quakers. However, they had intermarried and migrated with the Quakers for many years. I believe my gg grandmother, Sarah Patty, was born in Franklin County in 1816 as d/o James Patty who appears on the f.c. 1820, Liberty Twp., Franklin Co. p. 214 and f.c. 1830, Liberty Twp, Union Co., p. 226. I do not believe these were Quakers as they do not appear in the Monthly Meeting records in that area. However, I think they did travel with the COOKs, a long standing Quaker family, to Indiana. Several Cook families settled in that immediate area.
