If you haven't before, check the land records inn the courthouse, it will give you ideas of purchases/ sales etc. sometimes it helps learn when they came, sold died, or divested property's. I found that they have very little in the way of older will and probate records. I had moderate success there, which is wy this is in many ways a better form of divesting data. If you have time and haven't been there before a beautiful Catholic church on a Bluff, St Mary's I think it is, South on aa scenic road, has a German cemetary, and a small one across the street, go around back of the church to the outdoor Grotto, very cool. Then take the country road south and west to the German village, the name just escaped me, Very quaint. I just passed thru last year, and was delighted at how rural it is, and very nice area. I enjoyed it. Ken
Norma it depends on what you are looking for. Winnie at the library is a great person to start with. She is super and can point you quickly in the right direction. Everytime I have visited the courthouse everyone has been enjoyable there to work with. My first stop would be to talk with Winnie at the library on Main street. Tell her that I said to take good care of you..:o) Randy Klemme Franklin County Genealogy Coordinator Norma Adams wrote: > Hi, > I'm planning a research trip to Brookville on Tuesday, and I'm trying to > work out a plan > of action. Hi Debbie, Although Phenis is not my direct line, I decend (by marriage) from them. I'll share what I have on the Phenis name, and hope this helps you. John E. (or John F.) Phenis was born in 1854. He married Lorretta (maiden name unknown). John & Lorretta had an infant son (b. 10 Sep 1889, d. 23 Sep 1889), and a daughter Lida, who lived until 4 Oct 1968. Lorretta died 13 Feb 1911. John Phenis then married Nancy Louvesta (Ellis) Sellers [my grandmother] who had been living in Brookville, IN. They lived in Darrtown, (Butler County) OH until Nancy's death in 1927. John Phenis died 4 Dec 1943, and is buried in Oxford Cemetery (Oxford, OH), Sec. 50, lot 3, with his first wife Lorretta, infant son, daughter Lida, and second wife Nancy. I would love to see what you have on this family. Darrell in Minnesota ---DRE1955@aol.com wrote: > > Hi! > > We're related! Researching George and Christian BOHRER 1837 - 1856 Highland Township, Franklin County. Also appreciate any information on their good neighbors George, Rheinhardt and Jacob SHINDELDECKER; David and George SCHMIDT; August WILLIE. Also trying to locate the church and cemetery records for ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH located on Pine Road 1 and 1/4 mile west of Saint Peters on the Blue Creek. The congregation was established in 1844 and was desolved by the 1880's. ZION LUTHERAN CEMETERY is on the cemetery restoration list and a sign was errected this past spring in memory of the early pioneers buried there. See the Franklin County PCRP web site for pictures and information. I would also like to thank Richard Fussner and his daughter Jenifer for their time spent in cutting trees and clearing brush from the cemetery. Hopefully by some time next year a slit rail fence will be errected. Volunters will be needed as well as someone who can give expert advice on construction of a split rail fence from scratch using native raw materials, ( not pre-cut ). Contact Randy or myself if you have any advice to offer on the split rail. Thanks! Don Bohrer

Hello my name is Linda and I have been trying to put my puzzle together but I have a lot of missing pieces and the family that is still alive is not very much help and I'm really surprised. I would think they would remember where the father and mother came from and know a little about the grandparents. These are the names I have Durham, Heady, Miller, McIntire, Thomas, Hill, Joiner & Aldridge. This is what I have on The Miller's that my Aunt's married I assume are from Indiana don't much about them as I was to young to remember I am searching all over for answers but these are the names and they were around Plainfield, Indianapolis, Claremont, Speedway, Bridgeport, & Bendavis Indiana area: GEORGE ALONSO MILLER, EARL MILLER, EVERETT MILLER, THOMAS C. MILLER, ANNA MILLER. MONTY MILLER, ABE MILLER, & RUBY MILLER. I was told that Anna Miller had married a Marion Suddith, Jr.? Don't know if there is a connection but you never know. If you think you have anything it would be greatly appreciated.
On the Franklin County Genealogy website you will find a listing of county offices, I believe it is the Franklin County Links page.
