Hi folks..... I'm not having much luck finding more information concerning my John C. Johnston, b. ca. 1802 in Indiana, m. Madaline Wheaton/Whedon 1825 in Franklin Co. Therefore, I'm hoping to try a new tactic to see what happens. According to land records, John C. owned land located at NE quarter of 27 - 9 - 2 in Franklin Co. My understanding is that would put his farm about a mile due east of Brookville. Does anyone else have land record info on their ancestors that would put them as having lived in close proximity to John C.? I have Madaline's obituary from 1839 which would indicate she was an invalid for several years before her death; census records for 1830 indicate there were other adults living in the Johnston household that I can't account for. I'm grabbing at straws here, I know; however, I'm grateful for any clues. Best wishes..... Hi! If you're looking at cemeteries, here's a puzzle that I've been trying to solve for several years. My 4th gr-grandfather, Peter Stone (aka Stein), came to America in the 1750's. He settled in Pendleton County, West Virginia (it was part of Virginia at the time). He and members of his family eventually settled in northern Dearborn County. A Daughters of the American Revolution Report for 1931-32 includes Peter in a list of graves of Revolutionary War soldiers. The report states that he is buried near St. Leon, Dearborn Co. I have tried to find out how his grave was listed but have been unsuccessful. I have no other definitive proof that Peter was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. A map that I have indicates that there is a cemetery in St. Leon. Sometime when you have time could you check this out? If you can't that's ok. Peter's granddaughter, Margaret, married Richard Nichols. Richard was an earler settle in Franklin Co. He's listed in the 1820 census. Thank you for your cooperation. It is appreciated. nicholsf@lanset.com Fred Nichols 29 Payne River Circle Sacramento, CA (916) 428-6459 ---------- > From: randy klemme <randyk@si-net.com> > To: INFRANKLI-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [INFRANKLI-L] Harmony Church Cemetery > Date: Friday, September 25, 1998 8:10 PM > > Do you want me to make a short drive, maybe Sunday? > > Randy Klemme > Franklin County Genealogy Coordinator > > DCramer624@aol.com wrote: > > > Hi > > Is there anyone living in Franklin Co. that might be visiting the Harmony > > Church Cemetery located just north of Mixerville ? > > I would like to know the dates on a certain grave stone. > > There is a stone for a Philetus Gray and I am curious to know the dates > > because I have found the same name at the National Cemetery in Nashville, TN. > > If anyone can help please let me know. > > Thanks > > Jackie > > > ==== INFRANKLI Mailing List ==== > To UNSUBSCRIBE to the list send e-mail to: > INFRANKLI-L-request@rootsweb.com > Put only the word "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the message. > > Any special requests e-mail: randyk@si-net.com

Randy, I appreciate your help but I am more concerned about your health. Only if you feel up to a little Sunday drive. The stone is located next to Mary E. Gray a small red granite stone about 2/3 of the way back on the right. Phileatus Gray is an upright white military type stone and very difficult to read. I did not think Phileatus was related because I was always told his name was John. I was also told they married one day and he left for the war (Civil War) the following day and never heard from again. After researching I found the marriage license and Mary did marry Phileatus. Now, I need to compare the dates and any other information that might be on the stone to what I was able to find on-line about the National Cemetery in Nashville, TN. Info I received: Buried: Nashville National Cemetery; Private, Company "C" 37th Indiana Infantry; Died 2/13/1863. If the information is the same I figure the stone in Harmony cemetery is a memorial stone. I made a request to the National Archives but they did not have any record of him. So, any help I may receive will be appreciated in untangling this little mystery. They did not have any children and she is my g-greataunt. Just want to try and have all the facts on our family history. I know her greatnephew will appreciate in knowing because he does not believe what I have found so far and I figured the only way he will believe is to have documentation. Thanks Randy for any help, but first, don't over extend yourself and end up in bed again. Jackie
Do you want me to make a short drive, maybe Sunday?
